South Korean KEB Hana Bank Partners The Sandbox to Open Virtual Branch in The Metaverse

Ethereum-based decentralized NFT gaming metaverse The Sandbox announced on Monday that it has partnered with major South Korean commercial bank KEB Hana Bank to offer metaverse services.

The Sandbox Partners KEB Hana Bank

According to the announcement, both parties are looking to launch a new type of event marketing with the partnership. The bank will open virtual branches in The Sandbox’s metaverse to offer basic banking services and get coloration opportunities. In addition, Hana Financial Group will release content in K-verse, a virtual space that contains K-Pop and Korean culture to attract Gen Z Koreans.

“We are excited to see KEB Hana Bank enters the metaverse to create new kinds of content. This will be the next frontier of easy-to-use metaverse banking service for users.” Cindy Lee, CEO of The Sandbox Korea, said.

Founded 55 years ago, KEB Hana Bank is a South Korean-based commercial bank that provides the largest range of foreign exchange products in the country. The bank operates in over 199 branches across 24 countries.

Speaking on the development, So Jung Kim, Deputy President of KEB Hana Bank said that “the metaverse is the way people will experience Web3, and we want to be a part of this new trend. This partnership can open a door for a brand-new type of service, especially for the young generations.”

Not the First

KEB Hana will not be the first major banking institution to work with The Sandbox to offer metaverse services.  Coinfomania reported in March that global financial services provider HSBC partnered with The Sandbox to engage with the virtual community in the metaverse.

A host of global brands including Gucci, Warner Music Group (WMG), The Walking Dead, Snoop Dogg, Adidas, and Ubisoft have also partnered with The Sandbox.

Meanwhile, the metaverse has continued to gain traction with institutions and individuals jumping into the space in recent times. In April, Dubai-based Emirates Airlines announced plans to launch NFTs and experiences in the metaverse.
