Michael Keaton’s Batman, Supergirl And More Team Up In ‘The Flash’ Super Bowl Trailer

This year’s Super Bowl was a pretty great game as far as they go, tied up at 35 to 35 until the final seconds, when the Kansas City Chiefs ran down the clock and scored a final field goal for the win. I suppose that means that for the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans, this wasn’t such a great Super Bowl. But for those of us who just wanted to see a close game, it did the trick.

The ads, however, left a lot to be desired. I liked the Breaking Bad PopCorners ad (here you go) but I’d already seen it, and the version they played during the Big Game was shorter than the one on YouTube. Other than that, nothing really leaped out at me. Nothing, that is, except the ad for DC’s next big movie, The Flash.

Honestly, the trailer (above) is quite good, and reminds me that Ezra Miller—for all their many transgressions—is quite good in this role. Other than that, I was thrilled to see Michael Keaton’s Batman after all these years. Nobody says “I’m Batman” quite as perfectly as Keaton:

It was also cool to get our first glimpse of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (played by Sasha Calle, who I almost thought was a female Flash from a different universe at first, before she donned the costume).

Kara is the first “new” face in the trailer, but we get a look at Michael Shannon’s General Zod:

And Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne:

Maybe DC can pull a Spider-Verse and give us Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson’s caped crusaders as well!

In any case, this is an excellent trailer and I hope that James Gunn is right and this really is one of the best superhero movies ever. I can’t say DC has earned my good faith, however, so I’ll keep my expectations in check, even if they’re considerably higher than they were before this trailer dropped.

The Flash zips into theaters on June 16th.
