  • San-Francisco-based game developer, Zynga, who developed FarmVille and CSR Racing series, in their next step are developing a blockchain and NFT game.
  • Last Year also the gaming studio was in the crypto news as the firm appointed Matt Wolf, a 30-year gaming industry veteran as Vice President of Blockchain Gaming to head the company while diving into the emerging industry.
  • Wolf is quite confident that the next obvious step for the gaming studio is NFTs and blockchain technology despite the criticisms. According to him, rising technology is the only way to provide new and more realistic forms of value.

Zynga, the San-Francisco-based game developer behind the famous FarmVille and CSR Racing series, is now trying its hand in blockchain and NFT gaming. The game developer announced the plan to launch its first blockchain and NFT-based games this year.

It’s not the first time that the game studio has created a buzz in the crypto sphere. Last year, the gaming studio moved to appoint Matt Wolf, a 30-year gaming industry veteran as Vice President of Blockchain Gaming to head the company while diving into the emerging industry.

Zynga’s plans also include expanding their blockchain team to 100 employees from 15 at the moment till the end of the current year. There is also the probability of the firm falling under the Take-Two Interactive, video-game colossus and publisher of Grand Theft Auto. It recently declared a 12.7 billion dollar acquisition is all set to close in the first quarter of 2023.

The latest blockchain-based games will have brand new titles, since it makes no sense to suddenly integrate NFTs with existing games such as FarmVille, revealed Wolf while talking about the company’s NFT based gaming plans.

Further, he said the new games will be a lot like an erstwhile social media game, Mafia Wars, where gamers play gangsters and build their crime family.

Contrary to many other traditional gaming companies, Zynga is bold in the sense it is entering into the rather controversial sphere of blockchain gaming. The previous backlash over the cryptocurrency-related features is the reason why these traditional gaming companies are hesitant to enter the blockchain-gaming zone.

Many players also believe that firms entering into blockchain and NFT gaining are just looking to make a profit through their customers.

Witnessing the agitation against the technology on EA and Ubisoft, its fellow gaming studio, Wolf clearly stated that the company’s game developers will always have the option to choose to stay or leave the NFT plans.

Wolf is quite confident that the prominent next step for the gaming studio is NFTs and blockchain technology despite the criticisms. He believes emerging technology is the way to provide new and more realistic forms of value.

He also shares the gaming company’s goal to drive stronger engagement and retention and increase audience reach for Zynga. This they aim to achieve by creating an integrated experience that would allow players to become owners in their gaming journey.

Wolf in another interview said that he is not ignorant toward the challenges that come with NFT-based games. Wolf says they believe in providing the people opportunity to Play-to-earn.
