ChainSafe Joins the Blockchain Game Alliance

Today, ChainSafe, leading blockchain research and development firm, officially announced they had joined the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA). The consortium is committed to promoting blockchain within the gaming industry and provides alliance members with a network to share knowledge, collaborate, create common standards, and adopt best practices. ChainSafe offers the alliance an expanse of core protocol development expertise across many ecosystems and languages and a key resource: an open-source Gaming SDK called web3.unity.

The web3.unity library is an intuitive developer solution acting as a critical piece of middleware in the web3 gaming stack. It enables game developers building on the Unity game engine to connect to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) based blockchain networks.

As of writing, ChainSafe’s Gaming SDK, web3.unity, is featured on the Unity Asset Store, enabling its discovery by non-native blockchain developers to cross the chasm into blockchain development readily. Congruent with ChainSafe’s wider organizational goal of remaining technologically objective and chain-agnostic, the web3.unity library is also designed to be:

  • Multi-chain (Any EVM-based chain, e.g., Ethereum, Polygon, Moonbeam, Cronos, etc.)
  • Multi-token (ERC20, 721, and 1155 standards + other network variants of the same standards)
  • Multi-platform (iOS, Android, WebGL)
  • Multi-wallet (MetaMask, Wallet Connect, Web3Auth, Cronos Wallet), and
  • Multi-marketplace

As new and exciting gaming paradigms like NFTs, metaverses, play-to-earn (P2E), and GameFi enter the mainstream consciousness, gaming studios, indie developers, and players alike will seek opportunities to explore these new frontiers. The ChainSafe Gaming SDK, web3.unity already offers developers exciting connections to the world of web3 through use cases like integrations with NFTs and token queries. These primitives enable in-game interactions such as portable cross-game assets such as skins and items and in-game custom token rewards and staking.

“There are few professional networks in the blockchain ecosystem like the preeminent Blockchain Game Alliance,” says ChainSafe co-founder and CEO Aidan Hyman. “We’re excited to see the types of opportunities that will open up as we cross-pollinate our learnings with other ecosystem partners. More than that, we are eager to see other teams in the alliance leverage our expertise and open-source software to showcase the creativity of an industry that has typically led the way for most new technological shifts.”

The Gaming SDK, web3.unity, has a passionate fanbase of developers collaborating, creating, and supporting one another, as evidenced by the burgeoning activity on ChainSafe’s Gaming Discord. To onboard this trove of resources and ChainSafe’s core gaming development knowledge into the alliance is sure to be a boon for the professional network as a whole.
