YouTube may have its own metaverse

Few people know it, but YouTube has a section of its official website dedicated to Virtual Reality (VR)

YouTube VR

It is called YouTube VR, and can already be accessed from the subdomain vr.youtube.com

Currently, it would only be available to view normal videos published on the platform, but it seems rather limited to imagine that this is all there is to it.

In particular, the site makes clear reference to specific content created by creators and specifically designed to be enjoyed in VR

Digital gaming

Virtual Reality is especially widespread within the world of digital gaming, a sector in which YouTube has already played an important role for many years.

Although there have recently been some fierce competitors in this field, the world’s leading video platform will certainly not stand by and watch others overtake it.

The hypothesis that has started to circulate is that the platform could in the relatively near future also include some sort of VR component, in particular to make its gaming-related content more interactive.

The metaverse

In reality, there are still no clear details on what it could be, but from here to the metaverse the passage would seem to be short.

Not least because one of YouTube‘s historical rivals, which for years has tried to undermine its leadership in online video enjoyment, is making great progress in this regard.

Meta

This is Meta, formerly Facebook, whose very name now clearly indicates what it is concentrating on.

In fact, the famous co-founder Mark Zuckerberg recently showed a prototype of an artificial intelligence system that allows people to build portions of virtual worlds with voice commands.

It is called Builder Bot and can create 3D scenes with sound effects and background audio.

If YouTube really wants to stand up to the competition of Meta in the field of Virtual Reality development, and of the metaverse, it will certainly have to invent something, because apparently its rival already seems to be far ahead in terms of technological development.

In addition, Meta‘s metaverse will probably also include space for cryptocurrencies and tokens, in particular stablecoin, making it almost inevitable that Google (owner of YouTube) will follow suit.

It remains to be seen how far the company wants to go in order not to leave the competition with the liberty to take all these spaces that are currently still open.
