XRP Ledger EVM Sidechain Gets Major Upgrades Accessible Via MetaMask Wallet

XRP Ledger (XRPL) core developer Peersyst Technology has dropped specific updates for the XRPL EVM sidechain, disclosing its compatibility with MetaMask.

The firm posted the update in a tweet, attracting the attention of Ripple’s Digital Currency Advisor Antony Welfare.

Peersyst Technology said it is concluding works on the XRPL Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain. The team noted that it has refined and expanded the sidechain capabilities it announced in October 2022. 

According to the team, the latest improvements bring the EVM sidechain closer to its mainnet launch.

Improvements to XRPL EVM

The video accompanying the tweet detailed the significant progress of the XRPL EVM. It revealed that the team made performance improvements that dropped block time from 5.4 seconds to 3.5 seconds. This block time is similar to the XRPL’s.

Furthermore, the development team introduced a proof-of-authority (PoA) algorithm for validators. This implementation helps replicate the governance structure on the mainnet.

Moreover, the team upgraded the Tendermint consensus algorithm to Comet BFT. According to the statement, the Comet BFT is the newest and most powerful version.

Notably, the report highlighted that these upgrades are already deployed and accessible via MetaMask Wallet by connecting to the appropriate network.

Meanwhile, the bridge connecting the EVM sidechain and the primary XRP Ledger network received substantial enhancements.

The team mentioned it developed a fully distributed bridge, Witness Bridge, based on Ripple’s XLS 38D Amendment. This ensures native interoperability through exchange transactions.

Expectedly, the XRP community welcomed the update from Peersyst Technology. 

In particular, Ripple CBDC Advisor Antony Welfare acknowledged their impressive work in collaboration with the XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPLF). What excited him most was that MetaMask wallets can connect to EVM sidechains on XRPL.

Furthermore, Welfare recounted his journey into the blockchain space. The Ripple Advisor noted that he had started with Ethereum but loved that XRPL is bridging to Ethereum.

Moreover, Welfare expressed that interoperability is critical to blockchain technology’s continued growth.
