US: a campaign funded with NFTs on Cardano

Campaigning for the November MidTerm elections is already underway in the US

Candidate for Utah January Walker has decided to fund her campaign by selling NFTs created on the Cardano blockchain.

Fundraising by selling NFTs began on 13 August, but it is not yet known how much has been raised so far.

Four different NFTs have been minted, Yard Sign, Pin Button, Coin and Flag, ranging in cost from 89 ADA (about $40) to 5,000 ADA (about $2,300).

Walker is campaigning precisely on promises related to blockchain, so much so that the site where the NFTs are sold explicitly mentions cryptocurrency, blockchain and Web3

It reads:

“The blockchain community needs to make its voice heard in Washington and participate in the political system. Policymakers must know that they have nothing to fear from blockchain – and everything to gain”.

Not surprisingly, on the candidate’s official website, the first election promise that stands out is the one related to reducing inflation. Indeed, Walker promises to fight it aggressively, implementing the technology to eliminate the national debt and solve operational problems in the US supply chain.

Another warhorse is the fight for greater personal privacy and cybersecurity.

January Walker claims that her entire campaign is financed solely by donations from citizens, thus having no corporations or lobbies in a position to influence political activity.

She also states that, being only 32 years old, she is a moderate millennial with a degree in Business Administration with a major in Economics and Finance, leader in cybersecurity and technology.

On Twitter for example, she stated that “a blockchain is forever”.

In another tweet, she called the 2020 blockchain voting in Utah an excellent election.

In yet another, she said that the Cardano community is paving the way for new initiatives like hers.

It is not known how many actual chances she may have of being elected, but by running in the ranks of the United Utah Party she may have very few, seeing that generally those elected are representatives of the two major parties (Democratic and Republican).
