Solana (Testnet) Reports 13,000 TPS on Latest Stress Test

Layer-1 blockchain project Solana could process around 13,000 transactions per second (TPS) in future releases. According to an image tweeted by Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko over the weekend, a recent Solana release hit the milestone TPS figure.

Stress tests refer to the process of determining the extent to which a computer program or network can remain effective at peak usage. In Solana’s case, the stress test involves simulating transactions between addresses to determine the number of transactions the network can comfortably process without going offline.

Noteworthily, the latest stress test involves Solana Testnet release version 1.11 which is currently under development. Also, as the Solana Labs co-founder alluded to, the test results may return lower throughput on the mainnet since they do not include complex transactions such as those associated with DeFi protocols. Solana currently averages around 2000-3000 TPS on its mainnet.

Solana Eyes Steady Network Improvement

It will likely still take several months for the recent testnet release to go live on the mainnet. However, the layer-1 blockchain project has already rolled out several upgrades with a focus on solving its known liveness issue.

Among other improvements, Solana has rolled out a process for taxing bot transactions and also introduced a protocol that allows top priority users to pay slightly higher fees without affecting the overall network state. These improvements have helped stabilize the network’s processing speed and ensured that the last major outage dates back to early June.

Meanwhile, co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko recently hinted at when the network will finally exit its “Beta” mode. The exit could come when Solana 2.0 is released on the mainnet, a milestone that could take several years with the network still in the early v1 stages as noted earlier.

Solana’s native SOL token is trading at $30.4 at the time of writing, recording a 3% drop amid a broader market decline.
