Pussy Riot: NFTs for women’s reproductive rights

The famous Russian punk-rock art group of Pussy Riot is preparing for the launch of a new NFT collection, called Proof of Protest, to collect crypto donations for 7 US organizations that are committed to the fight for women’s reproductive rights.

Pussy Riot and the NFT collection to defend women’s reproductive rights

Starting tomorrow, directly on the Lenster decentralized social media app, Pussy Riot’s new NFT Collection: Proof of Protest will be available.

It is a collection of crypto donations dedicated to seven US organizations: the Center for Reproductive Rights, Fund Texas Choice, Sister Song, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Fos Feminista, Planned Parenthood, and URGE, all of which are committed to defending women’s reproductive rights.

In this sense, Nadya Tolokonnikova, a member of Pussy Riot, wants the world to stock up on extra bottles of feminism, because the fight to defend reproductive rights has just begun.

And indeed, the new NFT collection debuts as an extension of a sequence of notable pieces by Pussy Riot, including the recent “MATRIARCHY NOW”, with which the group crashed the Texas Capitol a month ago in a demonstration against America’s attack on reproductive rights.

“A pink banner reading ‘Matriarchy Now!’ was hung from the Texas State Capitol building by Pussy Riot”.

Pussy Riot and the new NFT collection for reproductive rights on Lens Protocol

One peculiarity of this new NFT collection by Pussy Riot is that it was not created on the Ethereum Blockchain, using Lens Protocol

Which is why Lenster, a decentralized social media application for creating, sharing, and collecting user-generated content (UGC) such as NFTs, was chosen for its sale.

Essentially, Proof of Protest NFT was minted with Lens protocol from Aave Companies, which makes minting NFTs as easy as publishing a post.

The Ukraine DAO Initiative

The Russian Pussy Riot group is no stranger to using NFTs to support its political views. And in fact, in addition to the present defending women’s right to reproduce, some time ago it reportedly launched the Ukraine DAO initiative together with Trippy Labs and PleasrDao

This was a fundraiser using Ethereum NFTs to support Ukraine in the early stages of the Russian attack.

Ukraine DAO’s NFTs depict flags of Ukraine. In this regard, Tolokonnikova wanted to specify that the point was precisely not to promote specific artists or art techniques, but something bigger than everyone such as solidarity
