Microsoft Copilot now the dominant competitor to ChatGPT

Tech giant Microsoft has rebranded one of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) products known as Bing Chat to Microsoft Copilot. This gives it the same brand name as other Microsoft AI products and better positions the chat interface to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Microsoft Copilot Built to Take on ChatGPT

After several months of pushing Bing Chat, the company decided that it was the right time to adopt the “Microsoft Copilot” title and leave the former behind. In light of this new development, Microsoft Copilot has become the main brand for the tech giant’s AI chatbot. Colette Stallbaumer, the general manager of Microsoft 365 confirmed the change of name.

Moving on, Microsoft Copilot is being pitched as the free version of its AI chatbot, and on the other hand, Copilot for Microsoft 365, previously referred to as Microsoft 365 Copilot, becomes the paid option. Notably, the free version would still be accessible via Bing and Windows, except it would have a dedicated domain within the general domain, similar to ChatGPT.

The decision of Microsoft to rebrand suggests an evolving competition with OpenAI, especially as the latter recently announced its milestone of over 100 million active users of ChatGPT in a week of its launch. While these two industry giants are in close partnership in a deal worth several billions, they are also in competition for the same customers who are interested in having AI assistants.

Like every business, the team behind Microsoft Copilot is pushing out the chatbot interface as the best.

Microsoft Pushes AI Frontiers With Robust Partnerships

Microsoft’s foray into AI began at the beginning of this year with its Bing engine and the integration of a ChatGPT-like interface into its search results. From then till now, the tech company has achieved so much in the AI ecosystem. Two weeks ago, Microsoft partnered with technology powerhouse Siemens to unleash the full potential of generative AI using Siemens Industrial Copilot.

The utilization of this industrial Copilot transcends several core sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure. In like manner, Microsoft a one-year strategic alliance with Oracle to offer a better conservational search experience on Bing, leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
