Cryptocurrency exchange and wallet provider BlockchainCom has partnered with Florida International University (FIU) to increase cryptocurrency and Web3 education. According to the company, the partnership will better prepare FIU students for crypto and tech jobs.
“We’re proud to partner with a world class university to increase Web3 education and continue making crypto more accessible for anyone, anywhere,” the firm said.
Driving Web3 Education
Per the announcement, the alliance will enable FIU to “launch innovative micro-credentials, class courses on cryptocurrency and Web3, internship pathways, and industry experiences” in classrooms.
The deal will commence with the 2022-23 academic year. Starting from that time, students in the university will start taking new classes in cryptocurrency and Web3. Community members will also be given access to internships, apprenticeships, and guest workshops.
Established 57 years ago, FIU is the fifth-largest in the United States by enrollment and has a population of 60,000 students. The university has trained more than 5,000 computer science and information technology (IT) professionals in the last few years and is the country’s top producer of minority graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
“We want to be in service of people living and working in Florida on how crypto is part of their financial future. Because they’ve [FIU] got 60,000 students, there’s no better place to start with a program focusing on the intersection of finance and technology,” Lane Kasselman, BlockchainCom chief business officer, said in a statement.
Top Universities Add Crypto to Curriculum
Meanwhile, due to the career opportunities crypto knowledge can provide for their students in the technology sector, top universities are beginning to add crypto courses to their curricula in recent times. In 2019, the University of Gibraltar partnered with Huobi University, a leading blockchain institute in China, to promote academic research and include blockchain and crypto-related courses in its curriculum.
Several other notable universities, including New York University, the University of Nicosia, and Duke University, have also added crypto to their curriculum.
