Asset Management Firm Invesco Launches $30M Metaverse Fund

  • Metaverse Fund was established in Luxembourg and was worth around $30 million.
  • Other areas of investment will include augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) platforms.

Invesco, a global asset management organization, has started a fund to invest in the Metaverse. A representative for Invesco told that the company’s Metaverse Fund was established in Luxembourg and was worth around $30 million.

The fund “encompasses many distinct and interrelated sectors that help facilitate, create, or benefit from the growth of immersive virtual worlds,” including both major and small-cap enterprises.

Tony Roberts, the fund manager, predicted that the interconnectedness of the Metaverse “will likely have a transformative impact across industries as diverse as healthcare, logistics, education and sport,” referencing a PWC report from December 2020 that estimated virtual and augmented reality could add $1.5 trillion to the global economy.

Investment in Key Areas

Next-generation operating and computer systems, gear and gadgets that give access to the Metaverse, and networks for hyper connection are only some of the seven core thematic areas that the Invesco Metaverse Fund will invest in.

Other areas of investment will include augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) platforms built with AI, blockchain solutions, the interchange tools necessary to bring about interoperability of the systems, and services and assets that will promote the digitalization of the real economy.

Although the company has not revealed the specific firms that make up the Invesco Metaverse Fund’s portfolio “just yet,” it does include companies from the United States, Asia, Japan, and Europe. A spokeswoman for Invesco told that the fund’s management fee would be 0.75%, and that the fund’s performance would be compared to the MSCI AC World (Net Total Return) benchmark.
