AI Wars: Google’s Improved Bard Is Ready to Take On OpenAI’s ChatGPT

The world of AI chatbots is heating up with a new rivalry between Google’s recently updated chatbot, Bard, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. In February, Bard was introduced to the world but received criticism after falsely claiming that the James Webb Space Telescope took the first pictures of “exoplanets.” However, Google has significantly upgraded Bard, training it on PaLM 2, outperforming its predecessor while using significantly less computing power.

Google has also introduced several versions of its model, including the powerful Otter, Bison, and Unicorn. Bard supports over 20 programming languages, making it a clear winner in coding. It can help professionals with code generation, explanation, and debugging. In a test, both chatbots were asked to create a simple HTML file with a button that shows an emoji every time we press it. ChatGPT took around 30 seconds, whereas Bard provided an answer almost instantly.

Bard is also impressive when it comes to internet connectivity. When asked about the differences between GPT-4 and PaLM2, Bard provided more context to understand the meaning, not just the translation. Bing, which also uses GPT-4, provided sources to back up its information. In this era of AI-powered chatbots, Google, Microsoft, and Meta are vying to provide the most innovative and robust offerings.

While OpenAI’s ChatGPT has become a household name in tech, Bard’s free accessibility and superior coding capabilities could be key to its success. OpenAI has promised to update ChatGPT to make it multimodal and compatible with plugins, and Google is doing the same with both companies continuously improving their chatbots, who will emerge as the winner remains to be seen.

The AI chatbot race is heating up, and Google’s Bard is giving OpenAI’s ChatGPT a run for its money. Bard’s superior coding capabilities and internet connectivity make it a clear winner in some areas, but ChatGPT’s early mover advantage and household name recognition give it an edge in others. As both companies continue to improve their chatbots, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this evolving AI landscape.
