A Web3 Soccer Game Kicks Off It’s NFT Breeding Season

MonkeyLeague has just revealed the details of its anticipated NFT Breeding feature. The news comes soon after the Solana-based Web3 soccer game announced a jaw-dropping partnership with the iconic Italian football AC Milan.

Breed MonkeyLeague NFTs to create the next generation of on-chain soccer stars

“Breeding” is hardly a new concept in NFTs. From Axie Infinity to CyberKongz, we’ve seen many collections try to rekindle some of their initial buzz by enabling NFTs held to spawn new assets.

Without continued demand driven by utility, such breeding mechanisms often dilute a collection, resulting in lower overall floor prices. But, if mechanics are tied to a popular game, and merging two already sought-after NFTs can create another rare edition, breeding can add a novel element to gameplay not possible in non-blockchain games.

Soon-to-be-released MonkeyLeague hopes to fall into the latter category with its own breeding feature. The Solana-based soccer game revealed details of its first-ever Breeding Capsule sale in a recent press release

Gamers can combine one Breeding Capsule with two MonkeyPlayer NFTs to produce a new team member, which can be kept or traded. Alternatively, Breeding Capsule holders can sell the NFT on a Solana-compatible secondary marketplace like Magic Eden. Combining two MonkeyPlayers with powerful attributes is likely to result in a talented offspring for which there will be high demand among serious gamers.

The details of future Breeding Capsule sales have not yet been announced, but more information about the breeding dynamics can be found in a Medium article

To kick off the MonkeyLeague breeding program, Breeding Capsules will be sold at a fixed price of 3.9 SOL, paid of the game’s native currency MBS. However, future sales are priced relevant to the average price of Gen Zero MonkeyPlayers at the time of the sale.

The MonkeyLeague breeding rollout comes soon after the project partnered with the legendary Italian football club AC Milan. The current Serie A champions will collaborate on various initiatives, including licensed NFTs, first-team members playtesting the game, and real-world prizes like merchandise and matchday experiences.

The club’s first act as a MonkeyLeague partner was to license a series of 16 NFTs to commemorate historic AC Milan seasons. The MonkeyPlayers auctioned each wear kits from the team’s 1993/94 and 1995/96 campaigns. Winning bidders of select lots also received physical shirts signed by Zlatan Ibrahimović and VIP tickets to a match at the San Siro Stadium.
