You Can No Longer Build In ‘Fortnite’ Chapter 3, Season 2

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 ended last night after virtually no fanfare, marketing or hype whatsoever.

We’re pretty sure the lack of any sort of promotional campaign for Season 2 was due to the fact that it’s entirely war-themed, with the tag ‘Resistance’ and new additions like massive blimps, drivable Battle Buses and tanks—though the greatest battle players are facing right now is with long queues to get in and play.

One of the things I noticed when I watched the game’s Season 2 story trailer last night was a moment when IO commander, Dr. Slone, showed up and used a mysterious device to wipe out all the player-built buildings on the map with the press of a button.

I wondered if this would lead to a no-build LTM or devices players could actually use. I also wondered if Epic Games would take building out of the game entirely, but thought that was likely a bridge too far.

Well, it turns out that this is exactly what’s happened. Building is gone from Fortnite entirely. Players will have to focus on the new movement mechanics like parkour and mantling, and on the new vehicles (though many of the vehicles shown in the trailer aren’t in the game yet).

Building will, of course, return. Data miners have stated that it will be added back to the game in 9 days, and also that a no-building LTM will drop later this season for players who prefer a more grounded experience. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. No building will, quite literally, level the playing field for a lot of people.
