Wordle Stats And Streaks Reset After Move To New York Times

Well, I’ve got good Wordle news and bad Wordle news—all the Wordle news that’s fit to print!

The good news? The game has successfully migrated over to The New York Times and may even be better at its new homepage. And it’s not behind a paywall, at least for the nonce.

The bad news: Your stats and winning streak may not have transferred over to the new website correctly, and the New York Times’s solution to this problem doesn’t seem to work for everyone.

Basically, The New York Times claimed that your stats and streak would transfer without a hitch in the game’s original FAQ (which has since been updated). When this didn’t actually happen, the paper Tweeted:

In order to preserve your stats and streaks we’re supposed to go to the original Wordle website first (here). This is supposed to “automatically redirect” players to its new NYT website (here). The problem?

Well, at least for some players the redirect simply doesn’t work. Others are still reporting that their stats and streaks aren’t transferring. And some, alas, have had a successful transfer but lost their streak to natural causes: Simply not solving today’s tricky puzzle!

For now, it appears that the stats issue will remain a problem for some players. If the solution offered by the New York Times works for you, great! If not, well, it’s not necessarily bad to start over. A blank slate can be liberating. Also “BLANK” and “SLATE” are both potential starting words for your next Wordles!

You’re welcome.
