Winners And Grades As Jey Uso Quits WWE

WWE SmackDown advertised a “Hail to the Chief” ceremony where Jimmy Uso is expected to return to the Bloodline after betraying his brother Jey. SmackDown also advertised Karrion Kross vs. AJ Styles and Santos Escobar vs. Austin Theory for the United States Championship.

The main event segment saw Jey Uso lay out Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and his treacherous twin Jimmy before declaring he was out of the Bloodline, out of SmackDown and out of the WWE.

WWE SmackDown Winners and Grades

Charlotte Flair And Asuka Battle To A No Contest

Kevin Patrick doing commentary with Corey Graves and Michael Cole meant there was one more person to micromanage his every word.

Damage CTRL interrupted and took over this match with a beatdown of Charlotte and Asuka. Dakota Kai was with the group as well, so her SummerSlam return was not a temporary one.

I was patiently waiting for Bianca Belair to get her get back of some sort, but not yet. Hopefully soon, and hopefully the wait is worth it due to a heel turn.

Charlotte vs. Asuka Grade: B-

AJ Styles Def. Karrion Kross

Backstage, Austin Theory attacked Santos Escobar and took out his knee. During SummerSlam weekend, the Streets were telling me to be on the lookout for LA Knight to crash the United States Title party. With Escobar (kayfabe) hobbled, could this be his way in?

Corey Graves did a great job playing defense lawyer for Karrion Kross and Scarlett’s underhanded tactics throughout this match.

The story of this match was Scarlett interfering time and again, only for Michin to eventually even the odds. After yet another clean win for AJ Styles over Kross, Karrion’s comeback tour in WWE remains a straight line with no clear trajectory.

AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross Grade: C+

Edge Returns

Edge put over Sheamus like a million bucks, and before he even invited the Brawling Brutes to the ring, my Spidey Senses screamed “heel turn.”

Sheamus showed the clip of Edge falling off the bike, which led to Edge realizing he could take bumps again. In the clip, Edge showed a bruise of his “bare, white butt.” When Edge pushed back against Sheamus showing the footage, Sheamus reminded Edge that Edge has showed a lot more than that on TV.

Despite this being a chummy, feel-good segment, it took a while for the crowd to warm up to it.

Sheamus and Edge gave each other their flowers, and in celebration of Edge’s 25th anniversary, Edge and Sheamus agreed to a first-time ever match ever next week.

Edge-Sheamus Grade: B-

LA Knight Def. Top Dolla

Michael Cole really said it was Hulk Hogan’s birthday and the 50th anniversary of hip hop…in the same sentence!

Part of Cole’s weekly burial of Top Dolla included Cole “spitting some bars.”

Kevin Patrick asked the hardest-hitting question of the night: “Cole, what have you got against Top Dolla?”

Corey Graves compared LA Knight to DJ Khaled because he says the same thing over and over. WWE seems to be pushing Knight through gritted teeth.

LA Knight vs. Top Dolla Grade: C+

Rey Mysterio Def. Austin Theory

Backstage, Bobby Lashley met with the street Profits in a lowkey lounge setting. This group is like Black rat pack.

Santos Escobar was once again attacked by Theory, forcing Rey Mysterio to compete for the United States Championship in his place.

Rey Mysterio worked a very good match against Theory, who was able to get a good amount of heat for his heelish actions. The heel finally got his comeuppance when Mysterio sprung the upset.

Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio are now father-son champions of America.

With so many possible heel turns in the air, add Santos Escobar turning on Rey to one of the many possibilities.

Mysterio vs. Theory Grade: B

Hail To The Chief Featuring Roman Reigns

Calgary acknowledged the hell out of Roman Reigns despite the anti-Bloodline sign a fan was brandishing in the background.

Jimmy Uso entered through the crowd to chants of “you sold out!” Reigns then paused for a chant that was starting to develop but it never quite materialized.

Reigns asked what Jimmy wants in return for his betrayal, and Jimmy said he didn’t want anything from Roman Reigns.

Taking a page from Reigns’ garden-variety manipulation, Jimmy said he did what he did because he loved Jey, and he was afraid to lose Jey. Jimmy then said he didn’t want Jey to be an “egotistical, manipulative assh—e like Roman Reigns,” which led to chants of “a-hole.”

Reigns took this messy Uso breakup to gloat and say “I told you so!” He was met with a superkick for his troubles. After fending off Solo, Jey hit another superkick and a spear. Jimmy went to give Jey a hug, and he ate a superkick as well. Jey Uso then said he’s out of the Bloodline, SmackDown and WWE.
