Who Could Be In? Who Is Leaving?

With the summer transfer window rapidly approaching and chatter about potential arrivals and departures getting increasingly loud, this week presents an ideal time to take a closer look at the Juventus squad and see what the situation actually looks like.

Goalkeeper

The Bianconeri are reasonably set in this department, with first-choice ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny under contract until June 2024 and 29-year-old backup Mattia Perin recently extending his deal until 2025 per this press release from the club’s official website.

However, the Old Lady could make a move if she decides to seek an upgrade on Szczesny, with a recent report from TuttoJuve noting that the odds on Gianluigi Donnarumma moving to Turin this summer were recently cut from 20/1 (21.0) to 12/1 (13.0).

Central Defence

It is difficult to know what openings there will be here in Max Allegri’s squad. Matthijs de Ligt is tied down to 2024, as is Leonardo Bonucci. Skipper Giorgio Chiellini is once again out of contract in June, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes the 37-year-old might well try a new experience in America.

Daniele Rugani has another 12 months left on his contract, but the level of trust in him seems to have waned completely and he could be a player headed for the exit. One name that has been constantly linked with Juve is Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger, with Sky Sports believing the club have already offered him a deal.

The German international is out of contract this summer and would be available on a free transfer, and he is already well acquainted with Serie A after spending two years with AS Roma.

Full-back

This is one area where Juve might experience heavy turnover, with the future of a number of players remaining uncertain. The club announced earlier this month that Juan Cuadrado had extended his contract by 12 months, but there has been no such news for Mattia De Sciglio despite his own deal expiring in June.

Danilo is tied down to 2024, while Luca Pellegrini and Alex Sandro both have a contract that runs until June 2023. It is the latter who might be the next to move on, the 31-year-old having gotten nowhere near his best form for quite some time and with a number of potential replacements being linked with Juventus.

Leading the way is Owen Wijndal of AZ Alkmaar who Juve have begun to look closely at according to Fabiano Della Valle of La Gazzetta dello Sport. Among the alternatives are the Chelsea duo of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, who – as former players of Fiorentina and Roma respectively – are once again players with plenty of experience in Serie A.

Midfield

Denis Zakaria and Manuel Locatelli are the two guarantees here, while the future of the club’s other midfielders remains distinctly unclear. Weston McKennie suffered a serious injury and is under contract until 2025, meaning it is difficult to see him going anywhere this summer.

Arthur has a deal until that same summer, but has been underwhelming since arriving from Barcelona so the club might be open to moving on from him. The same is true of Adrien Rabiot who remains inconsistent, while a decision will also need to be made about Aaron Ramsey once his loan spell at Rangers comes to an end.

Another Chelsea star who has long been linked with the Bianconeri is Jorginho, who would fit in seamlessly and appears to be open to a move. Asked directly about a move to Juve during an appearance on TV show Qui Studio a Voi Stadio last month, his agent Joao Santos admitted “hey would be taken into consideration.”

Talk of a four-year deal worth around €6 million ($6.48m) per year would fit in with the other highest earners at the club and makes a lot of sense. An alternative name is Sassuolo’s 22-year-old Davide Frattesi, who is reportedly available for a fee of around €25 million ($25.92m) and would demand a much lower salary than Jorginho.

Attack

This looks set to be a very interesting area, with many players expected to move on. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa are the pillars Juve will look to build their frontline around, but aside from them, it is difficult to see who else might still be around.

CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has already confirmed the departure of Paulo Dybala, admitting that the club could not afford to commit large wages to a player who was no longer “at the centre of the project.”

His contract expires in June, as does Federico Bernardeschi and Sky Italia insist he will not be handed a new deal either. Alvaro Morata’s loan spell ends next month too, and it seems Juve are reluctant to hand Atletico Madrid the €35 million ($37.81m) it would take to make that deal permanent.

According to Sky Italia, Juve are speaking to Angel Di Maria’s agent about the Argentina international who is out of contract this summer, while Giacomo Raspadori of Sassuolo is reportedly high on Juve’s hit list.

Neroverdi CEO Giovanni Carnevali was asked about the Old Lady’s interest in a player valued at around €40 million ($43.23m) and told reporters “we’ve already done the Locatelli deal with Juventus, if there was a chance to do more we’d be happy.
