Where Are Taylor Swift’s 4 New Songs? Fans Struggle To Find New Tracks On Streaming Platforms

Topline

Fans looking for Taylor Swift’s four news songs—one previously unreleased and three re-recorded—struggled to find them and took to social media in droves Friday to complain.

Key Facts

In order to find the songs—”Eyes Open,” “Safe & Sound,” “If This Was A Movie” and “All Of The Girls You Loved Before”—it helped to include “Taylor’s Version” with the title of the song, because they were released as singles, rather than added to existing albums.

News Peg

Swift is set to take the stage for the first time in nearly five years on Friday for her 52-stop Eras tour.

Key Background

On Thursday Swift told fans via Instagram she was releasing one previously unreleased and three re-recorded songs at midnight on Friday. Two of the songs Swift initially recorded for the 2012 movie, The Hunger Games, one was a re-recording of a song from her 2010 album Speak Now and the last was a previously unreleased song from her 2019 album Lover. This is part of Swift’s larger effort to own her own work by re-recording her first five albums. The master recordings of Swift’s early work were sold to a media company owned by Scooter Braun, a man Swift has accused of “Incessant, manipulative bullying,” leading Swift to release new versions of her albums. Braun sold Swift’s catalog to an investment firm in 2020. Swift, who asked fans to listen and buy the re-recorded versions of music, which she’s dubbed “Taylor’s Version,” has since released two re-recorded albums—Red and Fearless. Fans have largely listened to Swift’s request, in 2021 the re-recorded version of Red broke a Spotify record for the most-streamed album by a female artist in a single day. The re-recorded version of Red also broke Spotify’s single-day record for most-streamed female artist.

Big Number

53% That’s the percentage of U.S. adults who said they were fans of Swift in a Morning Consult survey published Tuesday.
