What We Know—And The Best Rumors—About Her New Album

Topline

The countdown is on for the highly anticipated release of Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights next week, and among the most popular—and completely unverified—rumors are that she will embark on a stadium tour and host Saturday Night Live to promote the work.

Key Facts

Midnights, which will be released on October 21, is 13-tracks long and tells the stories of “sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Swift said—and physical CDs sold at Target will feature three bonus tracks, one original and two remixes.

Song titles, which were announced on TikTok, include names like “Snow On The Beach,” a collaboration with Lana Del Rey, “Lavender Haze”—which is inspired by her relationship with actor Joe Alwyn–and “Karma.”

Fans are convinced Swift is going to be announced as the surprise host of the October 22 episode of Saturday Night Live, though a live show has not been announced for this date (Forbes has reached out to SNL for comment).

Swift is scheduled to appear on the October 24 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Swift hasn’t toured since 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour, and since then she’s released the new albums Lover, Folklore and Evermore and re-released her albums Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version)—leading fans to believe she’ll embark on a massive Midnights tour next year.

The rumor mill can’t always be trusted: Last month it was reported Swift would be announced as next year’s Super Bowl halftime performer, but the gig went to Rihanna.

Forbes Valuation

$570 million. That’s what Forbes estimated Swift’s net worth was as of June, landing her at No. 48 on the list of America’s richest self-made women and at No. 25 on the list of the highest paid entertainers.

Key Background

Swift announced Midnights while accepting an award onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. It’s her 10th studio album, not counting the re-releases of Red and Fearless. Swift is re-recording her first six albums, after they were sold by Big Machine Records to manager Scooter Braun, a deal Swift says she was cut out of. She has four albums to re-release: Speak Now, Taylor Swift, 1989 and Reputation.

Tangent

It’s also rumored Swift could contend at this year’s Oscars for the short film she released last year for the 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well.” It screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival this year.
