What To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video Paramount+ And More

Another lovely, cool June weekend is upon us, which means days of fun in the sun and evenings chilling watching the latest and greatest streaming offerings from Netflix, HBO, Disney and all the rest of the many—too many!—streaming services out there.

I can’t help you with your day plans—picnic, hike, bike, go swimming, you call it—but I can help you with what to watch. Every weekend, here on this blog, I publish a new streaming guide to help you navigate the flood of content that we’re barraged with on the daily. Let’s dive right in . . . .

New To Stream This Weekend

In this next section I include both brand new shows and movies, and a couple oldies-but-goodies that are newly arrived on various streaming services.

Flamin’ Hot (Hulu / Disney+)

This one just popped up on my radar. It’s the story of Richard Montañez (Jessie Garcia), a janitor at Frito-Lay who purportedly helped come up with the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos formula. It looks pretty funny, though the dig at Cool Ranch Doritos is uncalled for. The movie is faring better with audiences than with critics, but either way it looks like a fun, feel-good movie with a dash of spicy.

Creed III (Amazon Prime Video)

If you missed the latest entry in the Creed trilogy—the sequel series to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky films—it’s out now on Amazon Prime Video. That means if you have Prime you don’t need to pay to rent or buy it. I’m actually two movies behind on this franchise, so I’ll need to watch Creed II before I jump into this one.

The Crowded Room (Apple TV)

Tom Holland has made the leap from movies to TV with Apple’s The Crowded Room. The show’s first three episodes dropped this weekend on Apple TV+ with a weekly release schedule to come. It’s the story of Danny Sullivan, a man arrested in 1979 New York City after a shooting. Interrogator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried) questions Sullivan, uncovering his mysterious past and the details around the shooting. This one has a crazy Rotten Tomatoes split, with just 27% of critics enjoying the show but 94% of audiences. Wild.

Interstellar (Amazon Prime Video)

Christopher Nolan’s brilliant, tragic space-and-time adventure Interstellar lands on Amazon Prime Video this weekend. Yes, it’s been around for years hopping from service to service, but it’s been long enough since I’ve seen it to make it a great pick for movie night this weekend.

Dune – 2021 (Hulu)

If you haven’t seen Denis Villeneuve’s Dune yet, you really should—and now you can on Hulu this weekend. It’s not a bad time to rewatch the film, either, especially with the sequel headed to theaters this coming November.

Ongoing Shows

There are some notable absences from this list for the past couple weekends. Succession and Barry are over and done with, gone for good, having each tied up their fourth and final seasons on the same day. Yellowjackets gave us its season 2 finale a couple weeks back as well, which was sadly a crushing disappointment. So what’s still streaming?

From (MGM+)

While From had a bit of a sophomore slump part way through Season 2, the last couple episodes have been back to form, and I get the feeling the last few episodes of the season will be absolutely insane. I won’t spoil the details for those of you who have yet to see it, but this is a great “Lost-like” horror series about a mysterious town and the random people who show up there—and can never leave.

Fear The Walking Dead (AMC)

I include Fear The Walking Dead not because I think you should watch it, but because I want you to share in my pain. I’m covering the final season of this dreadful show just because I want to finish what I started. But it is . . . a struggle. I continue to believe that two chimps scribbling randomly with their own feces could come up with a better script.

Silo (Apple TV)

I decided to just wait to start Silo until it was over and I could binge it since I didn’t end up watching it at first (I was just juggling too many shows when this one came out). By all accounts it’s an excellent new sci-fi series, and I’m excited to jump in.

I should note, I’ve just finished Season 5 of The Last Kingdom—finally—and begun Seven Kings Must Die, the movie that wraps up that Netflix series. I am only halfway through the film, but so far I’m not at all impressed. I liked Season 5 and though it felt a bit rushed at times, I think it did wrap things up nicely and they really didn’t need to go any further. But we’ll see. Maybe the second half of the movie will change my mind.

I also finished Rabbit Hole recently. That was a fun twisty-turny thriller on Paramount+ starring Kiefer Sutherland and Charles Dance that I think went a little off the rails here and there but was still very much worth the watch.

A few other new-ish shows I need to dive into now that my schedule is a bit more free:

• FUBAR on Netflix — the new Arnold Schwarzenegger spy comedy
• Mrs. Davis on Peacock — a sci-fi thriller about a nun out for vengeance against a diabolical AI
• Citadel on Amazon Prime Video — the much-mocked spy thriller that I started and didn’t hate, but didn’t love…so maybe it’ll be okay?
• Poker Face on Peacock — Started it, enjoyed the first couple episodes, forgot about it. Nice that you can watch this one without feeling the need to burn through it since it’s all pretty self-contained mysteries each episode.
• The Diplomat on Netflix — A zany looking comedy / political thriller that I’ve heard great things about but still haven’t gotten around to. Have I mentioned that there is simply not enough time in the day to keep up with all of this content???
