Green Bay Packers at Buffalo Bills Preview and Predictions

Both of these clubs came into the 2022 NFL season as some of the heaviest Super Bowl favorites. While the Bills have managed to live up to those lofty expectations by jumping out to a 5-1 record, the Packers have limped to a 3-4 start and desperately need a “W” to get their season back on track.

Green Bay is desperate heading into this crucial primetime clash after hitting a new low last week with a 23-21 loss to the lowly Washington Commanders. The team’s most recent win came in Week 4 when it needed overtime to slip past a New England Patriots foe that lost its second-string quarterback and put out a third-string rookie for much of the contest.

The Packers offense is still trying to forge an identity without superstar wideout Davante Adams, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs—the rookies the club drafted to help ease the loss of Adams—have had issues with both consistency and injury, while the aging veterans in Green Bay’s receiving corps haven’t stepped up to fill the void.

Back-to-back NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is having one of his worst seasons ever due to the lack of talent surrounding him and is averaging a meager 6.5 yards per passing attempt. That mark represents the lowest of his storied career and a major drop from the 8.0 YPA he posted across the last two years.

Rodgers’ counterpart in Buffalo is looking like the most viable candidate to capture the MVP award this year. Josh Allen is the front-runner for the hardware right now after piling up an eye-popping 19 touchdowns in just six games while throwing just four interceptions in that span.

Unlike Rodgers, Allen is getting plenty of support from his defense. The Bills are leading the league in both total and scoring defense, conceding only 281.5 yards and 13.5 points per game on average. The club topped the league in both categories last year and appear even better on that side of the ball in 2022.

Green Bay was hopeful that a stingy defense could carry it while the offense came along, but that hasn’t been the case over the last three weeks. The Packers gave up 46 points during a three-game winning streak between Weeks 2 and 4, but have since allowed the New York Giants, New York Jets and Commanders to hang 77 total points on them across the three-game losing streak the team is currently mired in.

These trends aren’t likely to change for Green Bay in Week 8, especially on the road against a red-hot Bills squad that has put 85 points on the board over their last three matchups. Buffalo has been particularly dominant during its two home games this year, outscoring their opponents by a 79-10 margin in Orchard Park.

While this game originally appeared to be a potential Super Bowl preview when the 2022 NFL schedule was released, it now has real potential to be one of the most lopsided games of Week 8.

Even with the double-digit spread, lay the points and watch as the Bills breeze to an easy victory over a severely flawed Packers side.

Pick: Bills -10.5

Prediction: Bills 30 – Packers 17
