War Protests Erupt Across Europe—Including Russia

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entering its fourth day, tens of thousands of people across Europe have gathered in protest of the war, calling on Russian president Vladimir Putin to put an end to the conflict as hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees flood neighboring countries, with thousands of Russian residents joining in the revolt.

Tens of thousands have been protesting in central Berlin in recent days, including more than 100,000 on Sunday alone, according to Reuters, with the mass gatherings shutting down parts of the city’s public transportation service.

Some 80,000 people gathered in Prague’s central square, per Reuters, continuing protests that began prior to Russia officially declaring a military operation in Ukraine.

Thousands gathered in central Madrid Sunday, with protest signs ranging from “Peace” to “Putin, you should be scared: my grandmother is really angry.”

Gatherings were also held in Copenhagen, Rome, Denmark, Rome, Lisbon and London.

46 Russian cities also held Sunday, with Reuters reporting the detention of 1,700 more protestors in Russia—bringing the total up to around 5,500.
