Key Background

The Foo Fighters said they were mourning the “tragic and untimely loss” of Hawkins in a statement late Friday. The band was scheduled to perform Friday in Bogotá for the Festival Estereo Picnic, with the performance canceled minutes before it was slated to start, according to CNN. Hawkins, who previously played in Alanis Morrisette’s band, joined the Foo Fighters three years after former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl assembled it. “When you have a drummer like Taylor Hawkins in your band, I don’t necessarily miss being the drummer — because I have the greatest drummer in the world,” Grohl said in an interview with Anderson Cooper in 2014.
