Tom Brady Reportedly Hasn’t Made Up His Mind Up On Retirement

Topline

Tom Brady has reportedly told the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he hasn’t made up his mind on whether he’ll retire, following earlier reports that the legendary quarterback had decided to call it quits after a 22-season career with the New England Patriots and the Bucs.

Key Facts

Brady contacted Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht to tell him he has not made a decision on retirement, according to multiple news outlets that cited sources familiar with the call.

The quarterback’s father, Tom Brady Sr., told multiple news outlets that his son has not decided one way or another on retiring, adding that the decision will be made in a few weeks.

Don Yee, Brady’s agent, said in a statement that the player “will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy,” adding he “knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon.”

Brady’s health company, TB12, initially appeared to confirm his retirement in a since-deleted tweet that highlighted Brady’s accomplishments and thanked him “for it all.”

Unnamed sources told ESPN, which first reported the news of Brady’s retirement, that Brady had made the decision to retire out of consideration for his family and his health, along with the heavy changes expected on the Buccaneers’ roster next season.

The Buccaneers lost to the Los Angeles Rams 30-27 on Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs, and people close to Brady told ESPN he knew it was likely his last game as a professional football player.

ESPN reported that Brady will officially announce his retirement in the coming days or weeks, as he does not want to distract from the remaining playoff games and the Super Bowl.
