Today’s ‘Wordle’ Answer #297: Tuesday, April 12th Solution

Who would have ever thought that come mid-April, the year of our Lord 2022, a word puzzle game would still be such a massive hit? That a little indie game with no ads or monetization of any kind would, within months of its release, become so viral and popular that it would be scooped up by the New York Times for a seven figure sum?

It’s the kind of thing that beggars belief. Then again, that’s how these things work. Pokémon GO and Fortnite and various other games have penetrated the mainstream in the past, but I still feel like this is kind of unique in a lot of ways.

It’s such a simple game, for one thing. Guess a five letter word in six or fewer guesses. Share your successes and failures (without spoilers) with friends and rivals. Find good starting words and other strategies to succeed. And, perhaps most remarkably, you can only play once a day, meaning every single human being playing this game is on the exact same page every day of the year.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

Today’s Wordle #297 Answer

As always, dearest readers, a spoiler warning. The Wordle answer will be revealed shortly for Tuesday, April 12th 2022. But before we do that, how about a hint?

What do they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in Paris?

And the answer is . . . .

Royal!

Right, so my hint wasn’t exactly perfect but any Pulp Fiction fans should remember that in that movie Vincent tells Jules that in Paris they call a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with cheese a Royale with cheese. Royale, of course, is six letters but it’s easy enough to lop off the ‘E’ and get the answer here.

I kind of screwed up a little on this one, but it didn’t matter in the end. After getting two yellows with slate I guessed croak, leaving out the ‘L’ by mistake. That still got me two more letters, though—an ‘R’ and an ‘O’ in yellow—and popped the ‘A’ into a green box.

Polar didn’t get me any new letters but it still revealed basically everything I needed to solve the puzzle except the final letter. I knew where the O and A had to go, and I narrowed down the possible locations of the R and L. From here it was just a matter of trying out different combinations with various remaining letters.

As soon as I plugged royal in I knew it was going to work—and it did!

I hope you’re all having a lovely Tuesday, dearest Wordlers. Today we’ve got snow in the forecast which—although definitely good for the forests—feels a little cruel to those of us eagerly awaiting summer. Then again, I’ll take snow over this atrocious wind! I feel like Dorothy these days, ready to be swept off to Oz in a tornado.

Wind—if you’re not sailing—is a royal pain in the ass. And that’s all I have to say about that! Be well!
