It’s Wordle Wednesday! That means that on top of solving today’s Wordle, we’ll also do a riddle just to keep things interesting!

Today’s Riddle: A girl has as many brothers as sisters, but each brother has only half as many brothers as sisters. How many brothers and sisters are there in the family?

Let me know on Twitter or Facebook if you solve this and I’ll post the answer in tomorrow’s Wordle guide. Speaking of which, let’s Wordle!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Just like yesterday, another Wordle with a double letter in it, though today’s is more fun. My opening guess, train, worked surprisingly well, leaving me with just 13 words and three yellow boxes.

With two vowels, I decided to just reorder the letters rather than guess new ones entirely, but I went with naive because I figured it was still possible the ‘E’ would be in there. It wasn’t, but I got an ‘N’ in green and after a bit of thinking could only come up with one more possible solution: ninja for the win (as ninjas do!)

Today’s Score

Unlike yesterday, I didn’t lose any points. I get 1 for guessing in three and 1 for beating Wordle Bot, who guessed in four. Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “ninja” derives from the Japanese characters “忍者.” In the Japanese language, “忍者” is pronounced as “nin-ja.” The etymology of the word can be broken down into two parts based on these characters:

  1. 忍 (nin) – This character means “to endure” or “to conceal.” It is also associated with the idea of stealthiness and perseverance, key traits attributed to the ninja.
  2. 者 (ja) – This character means “person” or “practitioner.”

So, “ninja” essentially refers to a person who practices stealth and endurance. The term came into popular use in the 15th century to describe covert agents and assassins in feudal Japan who were skilled in martial arts and espionage. The western version of the word “ninja” became popularized in the 20th century through various forms of media, including books, films, and television shows.
