Today’s Wordle #708 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, May 28th

Lazy Sunday has arrived. The first lazy Sunday of summer. I was feeling pretty lazy on Saturday so I’m going to be a bit more proactive today. I have a lot to get done, as always. No rest for the wicked.

If I’m being honest, I think I’m still a bit stuck in a winter mindset. I am not particularly motivated to get outside and enjoy nature and all that jazz. I probably need to just make myself. I sink too easily into moroseness, into the murky warm comfort of depression.

Don’t misinterpret this as a “woe is me” moment. I’m just observing myself. It is sunny and lovely and perfect out and I’d rather just sit on my computer and play Valorant or Call Of Duty. That’s a problem I need to work on!

Baby steps.

Okay, Wordle time!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After I complete a Wordle I always head over to check in with Wordle Bot to see how I scored, both in terms of each individual guess and whether or not I outsmarted the Bot.

Yesterday I got so lucky, I think I must have used it all up. Today, it took me a full four guess to get to the Wordle. I thought crate would be a good opening guess, but today it was anything but, leaving me with 344 remaining words.

I picked sound next to rule out a couple more vowels and common letters, but walked away with just one green box. I still had 15 words to choose from also (though of course I didn’t know it at the time). I knew there had to be either an ‘I’ or a ‘Y’ or both so I picked slimy. While that wasn’t the right answer, it did leave me with just one remaining word: skimp for the win!

Today’s Score: While I got the right answer, I didn’t get any points in competitive Wordle against the Wordle Bot (see below for how to play). I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot, who got it in just three. -1 total! Boo!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “skimp” originated in the late 18th century and its etymology can be traced back to uncertain origins. While the exact origin is unclear, it is believed to be a variation of the earlier term “scrimp.”

The term “scrimp” appeared in the English language around the early 17th century and meant “to make scanty or inadequate provision.” It possibly derived from the Dutch word “schremmen,” meaning “to be stingy” or “to be frugal.”

Over time, “skimp” emerged as a variant of “scrimp” with a similar meaning. It generally refers to doing something inadequately or sparingly, often in terms of providing or using resources. For example, if someone “skimps” on a meal, it means they are consuming less than what is considered sufficient or satisfactory.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

  • Here are the rules:1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating Erik

  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
