It’s Friday—TGIF!—which means it’s a double XP day for competitive Wordlers. This is good news if you win and bad if you lose, as we double both positive and negative scores (see below).

I’m a little pressed for time today—there are just so many shows out right now that I’m trying to write about, I have to get back to work watching them!—so let’s skip the preamble and get right to the pudding.

It’s Wordle Time baby!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After I complete a Wordle I always head over to check in with Wordle Bot to see how I scored, both in terms of each individual guess and whether or not I outsmarted the Bot.

I’ve been rewatching True Detective’s first season and good lord what a brilliant show. Such incredible storytelling. Such amazing performances. I guess I was thinking about all the philosophy around death and existence and thinking about how everything fades which is where I stumbled across my opening guess. Wordle Bot told me it was both a strong opening guess and a distinctive one. Nifty.

It left me with 106 words, which is fine, but I screwed up a bit with stair even though it moved those yellow letters into green. That wasn’t surprising. I should have gone for all new letters in my second guess, however. I might have had this in three instead. Well, I took that route in guess #3 with clomp and slashed the remaining possible answers down to just two: shack and snack and since I’m rather fond of snacks (unfortunately) I went with that and nabbed the win. Huzzah!

My score today: Well, okay, maybe not huzzah given it’s 2XP Friday and I lost to Wordle Bot. That’s zero points for guessing in 4 and -1 points for losing to the Bot. Double that gets me -2 for the day. Boo! (See rules below).

Today’s Wordle Etymology (Via ChatGPT)

The word “snack” originated from the Middle Dutch word “snacken,” which means to “snap” or “bite quickly.” The term was adopted into English during the 16th century and originally referred to a small amount of food or drink that was consumed quickly between meals. Over time, the meaning of the word expanded to include any small amount of food eaten between meals, and it has since become a commonly used term for a wide variety of quick and easy food options.
