Today’s Wordle #618 Hint, Clues And Answer For Monday, February 27th

Well somehow February is almost over. One more day and we flip the calendars. March drops this Wednesday. Spring in just about three weeks. Summer in three months and three weeks. I’m still not convinced that the snow will ever melt. Another foot fell on us Saturday night. More is in the forecast in the coming days. We’re good and buried with no warmth in sight.

I suppose one must make the best of these things. Warm drinks—coffee, hot cocoa, maybe a hot toddy if you want something a bit harder—warm fires, warm blankets, good books. I asked ChatGPT how it would spend a cold winter’s day if it were a real boy and while it replied that it can’t really make that call given that it’s just a language bot, it did make these handy suggestions on how we can spend our time:

  1. Cozy up indoors with a warm blanket, a hot drink, and a good book or movie.
  2. Engage in indoor hobbies like painting, drawing, or playing board games with family or friends.
  3. Go outside and enjoy winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating, or sledding if the weather permits and you have access to the equipment and safe locations.
  4. Bake some delicious winter treats like cookies, pies, or cakes.
  5. Try out new recipes and cook a warm and hearty meal like soup or stew to warm yourself up.
  6. Visit a museum, art gallery, or indoor attraction if there are any open and safe to visit.
  7. Engage in some exercise indoors with an online yoga or workout class, or even dancing to some music.
  8. If you have a furry friend, spend some time playing with them or take them for a walk in the winter scenery.

Remember to dress warm and stay safe in the cold weather!

Thanks ChatGPT! I appreciate your concern for our safety. Maybe the robots won’t take over and destroy the world, after all!

Okay, on to this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Not better.

The Clue: This word has more consonants than vowels.

The Answer (Spoilers):

.

I feel like getting this particular word in five is fitting. I not only lose 1 point for that, I lose 1 for getting my butt beat by Wordle Bot, who got today’s in just three. I realize I screwed up here, and really shouldn’t have stuck with the ‘O’ in green. Hindsight and all that.

Boils actually did great, with just 42 words left, and you’d think I could have capitalized on that good start a bit better. Had I ditched the ‘O’ and guessed something else straight away I’d be in better shape. Soapy only slashed my options down to 17, which is pretty lousy. House left me with a whopping 5, and only three more guesses. I knew I had to change strategy at this point, as I could think of several off the top of my head:

  • moose
  • goose
  • noose
  • worse
  • dowse

I had to pick a word that had some of these letters in it, so I went with WRONG because it would tell me (I hoped) everything I needed to know. The ‘W’ would clue me into worse and dowse while the ‘N’ and ‘G’ covered moose and noose. If I was still missing a letter, moose would be the answer. Sure enough, the ‘W’ was in green and I knew that worse had to be the answer.

For better or worse. A -2 point game isn’t ideal, but here we are. No huzzahs for me—what about you?

A reader sent me a message that they compete against my outcome each day, and I encourage all of you to do the same!

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating Erik
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to Erik

Your best game would be a hole in 1 (3 points) and beating me (1 point) for 4 total. Your worst would be failing to guess the correct answer (-3 points) and losing to me (-1) point for a -4 total. These are outlier scores, however. Usually my worst is a -2 and my best a +2.

Have a lovely Monday, my dearest Wordlers!
