Today’s Wordle #593 Hint, Clues And Answer For Thursday, February 2nd

Wordle, Wordle, Wordle. It’s kind of crazy that I’ve been writing this daily Wordle guide/column for over a year now. I started sometime in January of 2022, and here we are on the second day of February, 2023. My how time flies when you’re solving word puzzles.

Wordle has been one of those rare cultural phenomena that grabs everyone hold at once and for a very brief moment keeps everyone’s attention. When it was at its zenith, I often remarked on what a strange, unifying force it was. People from any walk of life, any race or religion, any political party, could play it just the same. The same word for everyone. One a day.

There aren’t many things like that these days. Everything is divided. Everyone has set up camp somewhere, and no matter how much the idealists wish it could be better or different, the cold hard reality is that for whatever reason, our divisions have come to define us more than anything else. Often, it seems that believing in something is much less important than believing that you’re right and better and that they are uniquely evil and stupid.

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this wonderful old John Cleese monologue on extremism here before but I think it’s every bit as relevant today as it was back then—if not more so. Here you go:

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: To neglect, usually a responsibility.

I feel very good—and more than a little lucky—about today’s Wordle. Things got off to a rotten start with magic (do you believe in magic?) which left me with a staggering 355 possible solutions. Ouch!

That quickly took a turn for the better with likes, which narrowed my options considerably, leaving me with just nine to choose from. I went ahead and made a guess after coming up with a few different possibilities and much to my surprise, I was right!

Shirk was definitely a lucky guess with so many options remaining, but I like to think of it as a work of unbridled genius and unparalleled word-puzzle-solving acumen. Hey, I even beat Wordle Bot who got his in four. That’s 1 point for guessing in 3, 1 point for beating the Bot and 1 point for being so damn good. Just kidding! Only 2 points total, but that’s still a double huzzah! HUZZAH! Maybe a dash of hip hip hooray! for good measure.
