Today’s Wordle #220 Answer: Tuesday, January 25th Solution

Another day, another Wordle.

Yesterday’s word was really, really tough and I think quite a few people had a hard time solving it. I know it came down to the wire for me.

Wordle—a fun, daily word-puzzle game created by Josh Wardle—has captured the hearts of puzzle-solving gamers everywhere. First released in 2021 as a pandemic gift for Wardle’s puzzle-loving wife, it’s become the first big viral hit of 2022.

The ad-free game isn’t on the App Store or Google Play. Instead you’ll need to go to the official website to test your puzzling skills and your vocabulary (and luck!).

Check out my Wordle explainer here.

I also have a new tips & tricks video which you can watch below:

Basically, Wordle is all about solving a word puzzle. You get six guesses. Each guess has to be a real word that’s five letters long.

When you get the right letter in the right spot, the box turns green. The right letter in the wrong spot gives you a yellow box. All incorrect letters are greyed out. Using your vocabulary and logic skills, you’ll either puzzle out the answer in six guesses or less, or fail miserably. (Just kidding, there’s no miserable failures in this game! It’s all in good fun!)

Remember, if you scroll below you’ll see the answer for today’s Wordle. You don’t have to keep reading if you don’t want it spoiled. Just turn back now!

Okay, you’ve been warned . . . .

Today’s Wordle #220 Answer—Tuesday, January 25th

Before we get to today’s answer, let’s start with a hint:

Sweets to the sweet.

The answer:

This one was a lot easier than yesterday’s word, though I did screw up a bit by repeating the ‘E’ in my third guess—SPEAR—completely by mistake. Oh well, that word still got the ‘AR’ into place and from there, knowing ‘E’ was out of the picture, I just went through the remaining vowels. As soon as I thought of ‘U’ I thought of ‘SUGAR.’

The rest, as they say, is history.

Sugar actually originated in Northern India sometime in the first century AD. It’s believed that the word sugar is derived from Sanskrit शर्करा (śarkarā) which originally meant ‘grit, gravel’ and became ‘ground or candied sugar.’

Now the sweet substance is in all of our food, wreaking havoc on our bodies as we consume a steady supply of soda, processed foods and carbs. C’est la vie!

Thanks for reading, fellow Wordlers! May the force of puzzle games be with you!
