To Topple The San Francisco 49ers, The Los Angeles Rams Need A Strong Showing From Allen Robinson

The Los Angeles Rams are bent on ending their seven-game, regular-season losing streak at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.

Allen Robinson, L.A.’s No. 2 wide receiver, is trying to continue his run by providing two solid games in a row.

Both could happen on Sunday as Rams coach Sean McVay scares down his kryptonite, which is S.F., save last season’s NFC Championship game.

That Rams receiving corps had Odell Beckham Jr. to take the heat away from All-Pro wide receiver Cooper Kupp. After Beckham wrecked his knee in the Rams’ Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals and then went unsigned in the offseason, the Rams pivoted to Robinson.

It was an expensive move, with L.A. presenting Robinson a three-year, $46.5 million contract, with $30.7 million guaranteed.

But Robinson hasn’t yet found his groove with the Rams, except in the team’s last game when it defeated the Carolina Panthers. McVay has his fingers crossed that Robinson’s performance was more in-line with what the Rams envisioned.

Robinson’s production was far from spectacular. His modest showing of a touchdown and 63 yards on five receptions, though, was telling in that it was such an uptick from his previous five games.

Those outings were hardly the fab five for the Rams or Robinson as he collected but 12 passes for 107 yards and a score.

Here’s to you, Mr. Robinson?

Not exactly, but it’s possible Robinson has turned the corner and he’ll have a nice complement piece returning in wide receiver Van Jefferson (knee) on Sunday versus the 49ers.

“It’s just kind of been a struggle overall,’’ McVay said before Robinson’s game against the Panthers. “We got a lot of work to do.’’

But progress was spotted with Jefferson’s contributions in the Rams’ outing before their bye.

If Robinson can shine against the 49ers, the Rams’ offseason mining for an expensive play maker will come closer to fruition.
