This Jewish Beauty Founder Partnered With Two Muslim Investors To Help Women Through Her Company Beauty Magnet

As an esthetician, beauty guru, and on-air expert, Liz Kennedy has spent the last decade empowering both her clients and her fans around the world to build their confidence and self-esteem by putting their best face forward. Yet, after years in the beauty industry, she noticed two problems: skincare tools were neither efficient, user-friendly, nor easily accessible on the go and the beauty industry itself wasn’t helping women build their self-esteem.

These two key findings led Kennedy to create Beauty Magnet, a patented 5-in-1 skincare tool. “My inspiration for Beauty Magnet was to simplify my own, as well as every other woman’s bathroom cabinets while maximizing their ten minutes alone in the bathroom. Modern women love to use skincare tools to help amplify their skincare, however, they are always a mess in our drawers and typically impossible to find or travel with. Beauty Magnet has my five favorite professional skincare tools magnetized at the base so that you never lose your tools again. The Beauty Magnet 5-in-1 also comes with a travel-friendly case that’s easy to clean and a spray bottle which is intended to be filled with isopropyl alcohol to ensure that your tools always stay clean and sanitized,” she explained. “The name inspiration wasn’t just a play on the magnetization of the tools, it was selected with a deeper intention. Being magnetic is a large part of the brand DNA and will play a larger role as we plan to expand the lifestyle component of the brand. This will be supported by a podcast that educates all beauty magnet supporters on how to rewire their thinking as well as self-talk to be more magnetic. “Being magnetic is most understood as when you see yourself as a magnet attracting more of what you want and more of what you feel in life.”

Novel Solution

Kennedy spent over three years working with engineers and patent attorneys to create the Beauty Magnet 5-in-1 set. The toolset has a Dermaroller, Quartz Face Roller, Comedone Extractor, Metal Eye Roller, and a pair of precision tweezers that fit together with a magnet base. It also comes with a specially designed case and a spray bottle to simplify your skincare routine. Kennedy has found customers use the tools in all sorts of ways but as an esthetician, she wanted to ensure education was a key focus of the brand. On the website, you can watch step-by-step videos on how to clean and use the tools with professional techniques.

“My favorite way to use Beauty Magnet is from the countertop to travel. I use skincare tools like I use makeup brushes to enhance my skin. Every day I give myself ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes in the evening to use my tools alongside my skincare. While I use the tools I like to play a relaxing podcast or classical music, something to get my mind clear and focused for the day ahead or to unwind at night, it simply puts me at ease. In the morning I love using the metal eye roller to instantly depuff and contour my tired working mom eyes, it just allows me to relax. I like using this versus my hands as it stays cool to the touch and is gentle on the delicate skin around the eyes. For quick and easy brow maintenance, the tweezers were designed for a tighter grip for less irritation, delivering better results,” shared Kennedy on her morning routine with Beauty Magnet. “If I use Beauty Magnet post-shower, I will use the comedone extractor for the clogged pores around my nose and chin. My evening routine consists of using the dermaroller two to three days per week and the quartz roller for relaxation and light lymphatic drainage.”

An Unlikely Pairing

When Kennedy raised her seed round for Beauty Magnet she connected with two Muslim investors. At the time she was pregnant and many investors doubted her vision and her capabilities as an operator. Tariq Khan and Danny Saleem not only believed in Kennedy from the moment they met with her but they also saw the huge potential for the Beauty Magnet brand.

With the political climate in the world today, many people are shocked to find that Kennedy, who is Jewish, is able to work alongside Khan and Saleem, who are Muslim. “It might be an unlikely pairing for most but my group of friends and the people I do business with is so diverse that it’s completely normal for me.”

Khan was Beauty Magnet’s first investor even though there wasn’t a prototype- it was just an idea. “I first met Liz when this was just an incredible idea in her mind and there wasn’t even a prototype. She had so much conviction and certainty that she was going to build something so unique and revolutionary in an industry she knew so well, I couldn’t help but buy into her passion and conviction. I have admired her resilience in the toughest of times when an average entrepreneur would have thrown in the towel,” he shared. And as far as those who comment on working together as Jews and Muslims, he shared that they have never looked at each other based on their religious beliefs rather they have loved and respected each other based on their transparency and honesty toward each other. “We have stood by each other in the toughest of times and done nothing but wish each other well. when you know that someone you have invested in and trust blindly has only your best interest at heart and is only going to do things that will result in mutual success, how can religion cause any friction?”

Saleem was introduced to Beauty Magnet through Khan and had the same conviction in Kennedy and the brand. He sees the religious differences as a unique advantage rather than a cause for friction, “I feel sorry for those who still love to focus on one’s differences rather than embrace and promote our similarities. Throughout this journey, we’ve never had our respective religions or ethnicities come in the way of how we conduct our business or interact with one another. Rather it has been a pillar of strength as we have used our individual skill sets and backgrounds to collectively build a strong foundation. It’s also brought to light our shared experiences and cultures. When Liz invited me over for Passover, I truly felt as if I was at home and in turn, when Liz came over for Eid, it felt as if we were all one collective family.”

Beyond The Tools

Kennedy has always seen beauty as more than just products. The skincare and tools are just the first steps in helping women solve their beauty needs, while the more meaningful process is helping women find their confidence from within. Kennedy’s vision with Beauty Magnet is to teach people, especially women, how to magnetize what they want into their life.

“I grew up with a single mom in upstate New York in a small town and was taught that education was the most important thing, which is why I love sharing skincare education on social media and TV. At the same time, I would picture myself in certain situations, figure out how I would get there and then I would magnetize certain people and events that I knew would help Beauty Magnet come alive. Everyone is magnetic, they just can’t see it, they have to FEEL it, which takes work to tap into it. Our goal as a brand is to bring this messaging to the consumer in a digestible and relatable way.”

Kennedy plans to release an accompanying Beauty Magnet Podcast aimed to bring conversation and “Magnet Sessions” for fifteen minutes that will make you “more magnetic” alongside the help of psychologists and spiritual healers. “We are going to help people to rewire the way they think about themselves,” she said. As Beauty Magnet expands its reach, Kennedy is working on the next iteration of the brand: skincare magnetized in waste-free packaging and a larger assortment of interchangeable magnetic tools along with a PRO version for spas, aestheticians, and, nurses.
