This Is The Only Recap You Need To Watch Before You See ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

If you’re headed to Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness this weekend, you have a couple choices. You could:

  • A) watch a whole bunch of Marvel movies and TV shows that you’ve forgotten about or that have gotten a little fuzzy in your memory or
  • B) watch the below recap that will bring you up to speed in less than fifteen minutes.

Ideally, of course, we’d all have the time to sit around for a couple days and just sink into the couch watching a bunch of fun MCU movies, re-watching WandaVision and immersing ourselves in all the relevant Marvel lore (including the comics!) but we don’t live in an ideal world.

Then again, it’s pretty nice that we live in an era where your friendly neighborhood YouTuber—in this case, the Man Of Recaps—can sum everything up for you so succinctly, bringing us all up to speed on everything we need to know leading into The Multiverse of Madness.

Here’s the recap, which kicks off with Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first movie in the current MCU phase 4 and/or the final movie in phase 3. Really, it’s a bridge between the two phases, providing both and end-cap to the Endgame saga and a leaping off point for Phase 4.

The recap covers:

  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • WandaVision (Disney+)
  • Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+)
  • Black Widow
  • Loki (Disney+)
  • What If?*** (Disney+)
  • Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Eternals
  • Hawkeye (Disney+)
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

The newest MCU live-action show, Moon Knight, is not a part of the recap even though it just wrapped its first season. Presumably, the events in this very weird Disney Plus show are simply not particularly relevant to Doctor Strange 2.

It’s interesting to see just how much of this MCU phase takes place on Disney+ as live-action TV shows rather than feature films. Beginning with WandaVision (since Far From Home is more of a bridge movie) there are four live-action shows, not including Moon Knight, one animated show (What If?) and four movies, though Black Widow hardly counts since it takes place prior to the events of Phase 4 when Natasha Romanoff was still alive.

That’s essentially just three Phase 4 films, then, and five shows. Since the shows are also quite a bit longer than a movie, this MCU phase is predominantly taking place on the small screen. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will even things up a little bit, however.

Read about the film’s post-credits scenes and whether they’re worth sticking around for here.
