‘The Woman King’ Steelbook Is Finally Here… Almost

It’s been a topic on Reddit: The blu-ray for The Woman King was released in November but what about the Steelbook? Well, the answer is finally here: The steelbook is on sale for pre-orders via Zavvi but will be delivered in March 2023.

This exclusive steelbook features a 4k and Blu-ray version of the film and is part of a 2,000-unit run sold on Zavvi. The price per unit is $53.99, but is currently discounted by $9. It looks good too, as top fan art was selected for the casing. The units ship on March 13. The film has been streaming since the fall of 2022, but many people want to own it and not depend on wifi to see their fav film.

Chirayu Palande created the art that was the final selection for the casing. Palande’s art is the second image listed in the below tweet:

Fans collect steelbooks because the covers are more substantial than more traditional paper or plastic covers for DVD or digital releases. The film, which has grossed $92.2 million worldwide, has been available on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital, but steelbook is a separate casing and costs a bit more than other versions.

The film covers the story of the all-woman army that protected the kingdom of Dahomey. Staring Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch and Thusu Mbedu, the film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Princeton professor Leonard Wantchekon, who is also the film’s official historian, has said that this history is important for the world to know, and for the world it understand the complexities and modernity of the Dahomey nation. “There were major institutional innovations at the time, particularly in the court, the women warriors, the military units – things of major importance that even today we can learn from,” says Wantchekon.
