The Video That Shows How Special Gavi Is To FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona made it through to the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday with a spirited 2-1 win on the road against Galatasaray which meant that they beat the game Turkish outfit by the same margin on aggregate.

The Catalans had to sing for their supper, coming back from behind after a Marcao penalty thanks to the genius of Pedri who equalized on the stroke of half time before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a scrappy winner after the interval.

With Frenkie de Jong and Pedri excellently manning midfield in front of pivot and captain Sergio Busquets, Gavi only came on as a substitute in the second half. He didn’t have as much of an impact on the victory as others, but he helped, as always, in breaking up play and recovering the ball.

Footage released after the full time whistle however demonstrated just how special the youngster is to Xavi Hernandez’s first team, not just on the pitch, but off it as well.

At 17 years of age, Gavi is a man amongst men with a huge personality. Not just technically gifted and a star for the future, but the kind of character every locker room needs to construct the championship-winning team Xavi is building here.

Sergino Dest had to hobble off the Nef Stadium pitch on the 56th minute to be replaced by Ronald Araujo, who filled in for him at right back.

It was a shame for the American, who Mundo Deportivo found was enjoying one of his best games since joining Barca in 2020.

But such was his pain with the thigh knock that he needed help getting back to the team’s hotel from the team coach which is where Gavi stepped in.

Noticing his comrade was struggling, Gavi gave Dest a piggyback in touching scenes caught on camera and shared by La Sexta before being widely-discussed online.

Dest is now effectively ruled out of El Clasico on Sunday against Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid in La Liga and the US national team’s upcoming games against Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica from March 24 to March 30.

But with friends like these, he will at least feel loved in his recovery.
