The Top 10 Movies And Shows On Netflix: July 8, 2022

Here are the top ten movies and TV shows on NetflixNFLX
in the United States for July 8, 2022. Each day, I will update this list and observe the trends that change from day to day, week to week.

Top 10 Movies on Netflix

  1. The Girl in the Picture
  2. Sing 2
  3. Mean Girls
  4. The Dark Knight Rises
  5. The Man from Toronto
  6. Wanted
  7. Leave No Trace
  8. Final Score
  9. Wild Card
  10. Big Daddy

This marks the second day in a row for The Girl in the Picture in the #1 position. Yet another in the line of Netflix’s true crime documentaries, this film marks the horrific story of a child kidnapper who married his own daughter.

These types of documentaries typically perform very well, so it’s no surprise that The Girl in the Picture finally upended Sing 2’s reign in the top spot. Between June 23 and July 6, Sing 2 claimed the #1 position for all but four days. And for two straight weeks, Sing 2 was the #1 viewed film on Netflix in terms of total hours watched.

The only other movie to claim the top spot during that stretch was The Man from Toronto, which fell to the fifth place position for the second straight day. That’s by far the lowest placing for the Woody Harrelson/Kevin Hart vehicle that premiered in the top spot for four straight days between June 25-28.

The big surprise is Mean Girls, a 2004 comedy that had never made a Top 10 appearance prior to 2022. The film written by Tina Fey premiered in the #7 position on July 5, and has slowly inched its way up since. This is likely the highest we’ll see Mean Girls go, with Netflix’s next big animated film The Sea Beast coming out this weekend and The Girl and the Picture and Sing 2 likely being Top 10 powerhouses.

The only new entry today is Big Daddy. Don’t be surprised if it remains on the list for quite some time, as Adam Sandler’s movies have historically performed very well on the Top 10.

Top 10 Shows on Netflix

  1. Stranger Things
  2. The Umbrella Academy
  3. Alone
  4. The Flash
  5. The Unxplained with William Shatner
  6. All American
  7. Legacies
  8. Grey’s Anatomy
  9. The Upshaws
  10. The Lincoln Lawyer

Between May 23 and June 19, Stranger Things was the #1 TV show on Netflix on both a national and global scale. Then The Umbrella Academy came in to upset the streaming behemoth for one week before Stranger Things came back in to dominate in last week’s rankings. And it appears the sci-fi series will continue its reign for yet another week, as today marks the eighth straight day for Stranger Things in the #1 position.

Stranger Things has held the top spot almost every single day since its May 27 premiere. The only hiccup came when The Umbrella Academy took over between July 23-29. Believe it or not, this marks Stranger Things’s first time on the Top 10 list, as the show’s third season hit Netflix back in 2019 before the Top 10 list premiered. Today marks the show’s 47th consecutive day on the Top 10 charts.

The second season of The Umbrella Academy had one of Netflix’s most historic runs back in August 2020 when it became the first scripted show to be #1 for 15 straight days. In total, the show appeared on the Top 10 list for 43 consecutive days. While The Umbrella Academy could very well break that 43-day streak, Stranger Things has all but assured it won’t eclipse its other milestone.

Meanwhile, The Flash made its 2022 debut this week in the #4 position. The show spent 16 days on the charts in 2020 and nine more days in 2021. Today’s fourth-place showing ties for its highest ranking since its Netflix debut back in May 2020.

Alone is slowly creeping up the charts, but will likely be unable to eclipse either The Umbrella Academy or Stranger Things. Netflix’s reality survival show spent 11 days on the charts last year, but never reached the third-place position like it did today.

All American is having itself quite the run, with today marking the 38th consecutive day it has appeared on the Top 10. It has spent most of that run in the second-place position thanks to Stranger Things.

Today marks the 14th consecutive day for Legacies on the Top 10 charts, 13th consecutive day for The UnXplained, and the ninth consecutive day for The Upshaws.
