The Simpsons Predicted Again: SVB Melts in Years-Old Episode?

The Simpsons did it again, this time with SVB

SVB, or the Silicon Valley Bank, was acquired by the US regulators dated March 10, following a run on deposits. In light of the occurrence, the social media platform, Twitter, was flooded by claims of The Simpsons predicting the fall. Many claim an old episode of The Simpsons features a plot line about a run on a bank named the Silicon Valley Bank.

Within hours of the SVB shutdown announcement, the internet exploded with speculations that claim years-old episodes showing a same scenario of SVB meltdown. It continues the controversy over the animated TV series that has, in many ways, ignited interest in-and-around its coincidental prophecies. Despite the mass circulation of a viral video clip that appears to refer to Silicon Valley Bank by name, the claim is utter manipulation.

The forged clip in question is made using the actual footage from a 1995 episode entitled “The PTA Disbands”. The scene that raised brows is majorly unchanged, except for the name of the bank, that has stirred all the drama. In the manipulated version, the name of the bank appears to be “Silicon Valley Bank”, whereas the original episode has the scene around the “First Bank of Springfield”.

While there have been a few interesting and authentic coincidences between the claims. As far as the events are considered, a decade-long run, ceasing withdrawals and panic among the clients, the comparison on point. Apart from these “predictions”, the rest are hoaxes.

The Simpsons and its Prediction History

The list of predictions made by the animated TV show, The Simpsons, is long. A few that still made the world think twice were Trump’s presidency, Facetime, Walt Disney and Fox Merger and the Pandemic.

The episode “Bart to the future”, that premiered in 2000, was the one that showed Trump stepping up as the President. In episode 17 of season 11, not only was Trump elected as President in 2016, it also telecasted a scene that came true. In reality, President Trump descending from the escalator– a scene that was brought to life.

Several other episodes also have mirror images of reality and have exploded on the internet. The predictions turning true in real life has been a point to investigate but it has also made it to the memes given that manipulation is way simpler now.

Conclusion

The fall of SVB has made it to the list of historic events and was partially predicted by The Simpsons, if not completely. Although, the animated TV series did not predict Elon Musk showing interest in buying the fallen bank. The story of The Simpsons predicting the future event holds on to the nerve of people being afraid of the unknown and also people trying to solve the mystery of parallel universes.
