The Rock Now Overtly Hinting ‘Black Adam’ Will Have A Superman Cameo

We are less than two weeks from the release of Black Adam now, and presumably, the winding down of videos from The Rock hyping up the movie filmed from his mega-gym. But the latest in this ongoing series has caught fans’ attention, because he seems to be spelling out the idea that Black Adam will feature a cameo from Superman. Or at least the expectation he’s setting.

In the video, The Rock says that Black Adam is the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet. But then he repeats “on this planet,” with emphasis, and if that’s not enough he also just…winks at the camera.

While of course there are zillions of non-earth-based superheroes in DC he could be referring to, it’s well known that The Rock absolutely wants Black Adam to face off against Superman, elevating the stature of what before this was supposed to be Shazam’s main villain rival. But The Rock does not seem like he wants to settle for Billy, and he wants to go straight to Clark Kent. He has infamously attracted fan ire for saying Black Adam could best Superman in the past, but I have no doubt he has been doing everything he possible can to secure Superman for this movie, even if it’s just a cameo.

This is of course Henry Cavill’s DCEU Superman we’re referring to, someone else The Rock has praised in the past. The past few appearances of Superman in the DCEU have been…not great. He’s shown without his face in the credits tag to Shazam. He’s shown in shadow in the Peacemaker finale, while Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa actually showed up for cameos. And the last time we actually saw him was in Justice League, where he had his mustache famously CGI-ed off his face.

That said, the common notion is that Henry Cavill actually does enjoy playing Superman and would like to return to the role again. And maybe The Rock made him an offer he couldn’t refuse to show up as a cameo here, and perhaps there are plans in the works to bring him back properly. Though DC as a whole seems to be in a bit of chaos at the moment without anyone steering the ship. The Rock, for his part, is attempting to steer that ship toward making Black Adam a key part of the future of DC, if not the outright center of it.

Even though The Rock isn’t saying anything explicit here, if Black Adam comes and goes without a Superman cameo at this point after hints like this, I imagine that’s going to disappoint fans. Reports of Black Adam’s quality are all over the place, and at one point, it seemed like The Rock himself was saying it wasn’t good enough and they needed to keep working on it. But he seems pretty satisfied now.

Two more weeks and we’ll find out both its quality and box office draw, and whether these Superman hints amount to anything at all.
