The Osbournes Are Leaving America For New U.K. Reality TV Show

Topline

The Osbournes are returning to screens with a docuseries Home to Roost, about their return to the U.K. as Ozzy and Sharon announced they were leaving America after experiencing controversies and health issues in recent years.

Key Facts

The series will focus on Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy and talk show host Sharon as they move back to the U.K. and start anew on the countryside, with the help of their kids TV personality Kelly and ghost-hunter Jack.

The show, which will air on BBC One and iPlayer in the U.S., follows the famous family “as they celebrate one of their most important years yet – with everything from Sharon’s 70th birthday to Kelly’s soon-to-be-born baby, Ozzy’s tour, and of course the big move itself,” the series’ description reads.

Key Background

The Osbournes have had a tumultuous last few years. Ozzy, 73, has been dealing with health issues, including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, and a recent back surgery. Sharon, 69, was fired last year as a host of The Talk after 11 years, after being accused of being racist for defending a Piers Morgan rebuke of Meghan Markle by making controversial statements on air. Sharon has said she believes her firing was unfair, and even has a documentary about the controversy in the works with Fox. Ozzy and Sharon recently announced they were leaving America for good. “Everything’s f–king ridiculous there. I’m fed up with people getting killed every day,” Ozzy told The Guardian last week. “It’s just time for me to come home.” Kelly, 37, is expecting her first child. The TV personality has previously co-hosted The Fashion Police, which she quit in 2015 after Giuliana Rancic made controversial remarks about Zendaya’s hair. Kelly garnered headlines that same year for making comments about Latinos on The View. She now hosts the podcast The Kelly Osbourne and Jeff Beacher Show and splits her time between LA and London. Jack, 36, hosts the ghost-hunting show Portals To Hell and The Osbournes Want To Believe on the Travel Channel, and recently welcomed his fourth child.

Tangent

The Osbournes aired on MTV for four seasons from 2002 to 2005. The show was one of the first celebrity-fronted reality series that brought cameras into stars’ homes and focused on their family life. It inspired countless others that would go on to define entertainment in the early aughts, including Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels in 2006, Hogan Knows Best in 2005, Meet The Barkers in 2005 and Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2008.
