The Kansas City Chiefs Are The Fourth Most Popular Road Team Per StubHub

The Kansas City Chiefs are a hot ticket in 2022, especially on the road.

“That just speaks to the power of when you have a star quarterback like Patrick Mahomes and still Travis Kelce there,” said Adam Budelli, spokesperson for StubHub. “We expect to see a lot of popular games throughout the year for the Chiefs.”

According to StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, the Chiefs are the fourth best traveling team — when ranked by the largest difference in average price of tickets sold for away games in comparison to average prices for their opponents’ home games.

The Chiefs have the fourth highest jump (17%). Only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (44%), Dallas Cowboys (37%) and Green Bay Packers (22%) rank higher.

The Buccaneers are No. 1 because many expect the 2022 season to be a farewell tour for 45-year-old quarterback Tom Brady.

In fact the Oct. 2, Chiefs at Buccaneers game is StubHub’s most in-demand NFL contest of 2022, which does not occur on the NFL’s opening week.

(Two of the Week One games — Buccaneers at Cowboys and Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams — have higher ticket demand.)

The Week Four, Chiefs-Buccaneers game is a rematch of Super Bowl LV and pits Brady against Mahomes, two legendary quarterbacks who have a lot of respect for each other.

“You have the Mahomes-Brady, handing-the-torch-type of game,” Budelli said.

Both quarterbacks appeared on the Madden 22 cover together, and Mahomes spoke glowingly of Brady when it was presumed he had retired before the 2022 season.

In what is potentially the final matchup between the two, Mahomes has a chance to even the score for good.

Brady is 3-2 all time against Mahomes. Two of Mahomes’ losses to Brady, though, came during the postseason — a 37-31 defeat to the New England Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship Game and a 31-9 defeat to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

Brady’s Week One, Sunday night contest between the Cowboys and Buccaneers is the most coveted ticket so far.

It actually has double the demand of the No. 2 game — Bills at Rams.

That’s the power of both the Cowboys and Brady. Plus, it’s a rematch of last year’s classic. That 31-29 Buccaneers win was decided by a 36-yard field goal with two seconds left in Week One.

“It ended up being iconic,” Budelli said.

Known as America’s Team, the always-popular Cowboys not only sell a lot of tickets because of their brand, but they also play in AT&T Stadium, which can be reconfigured to hold around 100,000 seats, making it the largest stadium in the NFL in terms of seating capacity and adding to their cumulative sales.

The average price for Chiefs home games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which seats 76,416, is about $290. That fee is close to the league average.

The Chiefs kick off their season on the road at State Farm Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 11.

Despite the Chiefs being a popular road attraction, the game pitting Mahomes against Kliff Kingsbury, his former Texas Tech coach, is only StubHub’s ninth most in-demand game for Week One.

The Chiefs hope they will begin and end their season in that same stadium.

State Farm Stadium is the venue for Super Bowl LVII, and that will be the most expensive and coveted ticket of all.
