The Green Bay Packers’ Schedule Is Out — And It’s A Doozy

After a week of hints, leaks and clues, the 2022 NFL schedule was finally released in its entirety Thursday night. And it’s safe to say, the Green Bay Packers will have their hands full.

The Packers have won the NFC North the last three seasons and are an NFL-best 39-10 in that stretch. But a Green Bay team that traded away Pro Bowl wideout Davante Adams and suffered several hits in free agency this offseason must navigate several potential potholes to maintain its lofty perch.

The Packers face the last two Super Bowl champions — Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Rams. Green Bay has a three-game road trip from Week 7-9. And six-time Super Bowl winning coach Bill Belichick — considered the greatest of all-time — brings his New England Patriots to hallowed Lambeau Field.

Here are some of the highlights of the Packers’ schedule:

• Green Bay will open the year at Minnesota, marking the fourth straight season the Packers begin on the road. Last year, Green Bay was hammered by New Orleans, 38-3, in a game played in Jacksonville. The Packers also opened in Minnesota in 2020 and defeated the Vikings, 43-34.

• The Packers will host Chicago for their home opener in Week 2. That marks the 23rd time in franchise history Green Bay will host the Bears in their home opener. Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur is 6-0 against Chicago since taking over in 2019.

• The Packers travel to Tampa Bay to face seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Tom Brady in Week 3. Brady and the Buccaneers won the 2020 NFC Championship Game in Green Bay, 31-26, then won the 55th Super Bowl two weeks later.

• Green Bay hosts New England and six-time Super Bowl champion head coach Bill Belichick in Week 4. The Patriots have come to Green Bay twice under Belichick, winning 35-0 in 2006 and losing 26-21 in 2014.

• The Packers face the New York Giants in London in Week 5. The game will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a local kickoff time of 2:30 p.m.

This is the Packers’ first international regular-season game and will be played at the largest football club stadium in London, with a capacity of 62,850.

Green Bay doesn’t have a bye week before or after its lengthy trip, but does have home games in both Weeks 4 (New England) and 6 (New York Jets) that could prove beneficial.

• The Packers will play three straight road games between Week 7-9. That’s just the third time this century that’s happened (2012 and 2016).

The marquee matchup comes in Week 8, when Green Bay travels to Buffalo to face the Bills, who many consider to be the AFC favorites. The Packers will be looking for their first-ever win at Buffalo.

The Packers are also at Washington in Week 7 and at Detroit in Week 9.

Green Bay went 2-1 during its three-game road trip in 2012 and 1-2 in 2016.

• Green Bay hosts Dallas and former coach Mike McCarthy in Week 10. McCarthy, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl title in the 2010 season, was fired with four games remaining in 2018.

McCarthy sat out the 2019 season, and has coached Dallas the last two seasons. The Cowboys are 18-15 under McCarthy and won the NFC East last season, but lost their Wild Card playoff game.

Since firing McCarthy, the Packers became the first team in league history to win at least 13 games for three straight seasons. Green Bay is just 2-3 in the postseason in that time, though.

• Green Bay hosts Tennessee on a Thursday night in Week 11. Both teams were the No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences last year and both teams lost their first playoff game. The game will be shown on Amazon.

• The Packers will host the defending Super Bowl champion Rams on Monday Night Football in Week 15. This marks the first time Green Bay has hosted the defending Super Bowl champs since 2001, when it defeated Baltimore, 31-23.

Last season, Green Bay defeated Los Angeles, 36-28, at Lambeau Field.

• Green Bay will be busy on the holidays, traveling to Miami on Christmas Day in Week 16 and hosting Minnesota on New Year’s Day in Week 17.

This marks the second straight year and just the fourth time in franchise history the Packers will play on Christmas.

• The Packers have a bye in Week 14, then play three of their last four games at home. Considering the weather typically turns nasty in Green Bay in December and January, the Packers love being home late in the season.

In addition to hosting the Rams in Week 15, the Packers host Minnesota in Week 17 and Detroit in Week 18.
