The Grand Disney Plus ‘Star Wars’ Show Schedule, Which Keeps Getting Bigger

Disney recently had a big Star Wars celebration event where they showed off a lot of closed door trailers, and announced a whole bunch of new shows. Unlike the MCU, Disney has more or less put the movie part of Star Wars on hiatus and are concentrated on an increasingly involved series of live action and animated shows on Disney Plus that will join the existing ones we have already, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

And there are about to be a lot more.

Here’s the schedule and the announced series that we know about:

Andor (August 31, 2022) – Following Cassian Andor before the events of Rogue One, this series just got a new trailer and a release date. It’s next up after Obi-Wan.

The Bad Batch Season 2 (Fall 2022) – We always knew this was coming back, but we now know approximately when the animated series will return.

Tales of the Jedi (Fall 2022) – This is a new animated series of “prequel shorts” that will all focus on Jedi from the prequel era, including a younger version of Qui-gon that will be voiced by Liam Neeson himself.

The Mandalorian Season 3 (February 2023) – Obviously Disney’s flagship Star Wars show is returning, but after a long break where The Book of Boba Fett was operating as something to tide fans over.

Ahsoka (2023) – The show was teased at the Celebration, and confirms we will see other Rebels characters like Hera and Ezra brought to life. No fixed date in 2023 yet, but no doubt it will not directly overlap with Mando. Think late spring or summer.

Skeleton Crew (2023) – This was a brand new show announced starring Jude Law with Jon Watts on board that will focus on a group of kids who get lose in the galaxy and is supposed to be a “different perspective” on the Star Wars universe.

The Acolyte (TBD) – This is the first High Republic era show that Disney Plus is doing as they attempt to slowly extract themselves from the Skywalker era. Mostly that’s been confined to books, but the show, from Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland, will focus on the dark side of the force.

The Mandalorian Season 4 (TBD) – This has already been announced so there’s no question about how much faith Disney continues to have in this show.

Lando (TBD) – Kathleen Kennedy had some less than kind words for Solo recently, but she also confirmed that the Lando series with Donald Glover is still in development for Disney Plus. It seems…less firm than most of these other projects, however, at the moment.

Did I get them all? Whew, that’s a lot. And we still have no direct confirmation on things like if Boba Fett or Obi-Wan could get a season 2 (probably no on Boba Fett, maybe yes on Obi-Wan). But as of now, that’s ten different Star Wars shows that should be “active” within the next year or two, a far cry from the launch of Disney Plus where we had The Mandalorian only. Which of these are you looking forward to the most? Or the least?
