‘The Glory’ Wins Top Awards At The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards

The Glory took three of the top awards at the 59th Baeksang Awards, which honor excellence in South Korean film television and theater.

The Glory, starring Song Hye-kyo, won the Best Drama Award, beating out the other exceptional contenders Extraordinary Attorney Woo, My Liberation Notes, Little Women and Our Blues.

Song Hye-kyo won The Best Actress Award for her role as a tortured woman out for revenge in The Glory. The Netflix drama also earned a Best Supporting Actress Award for Lim Ji-yeon, who played the woman she wants to destroy.

Lee Sung-min won the Best Actor Award for his role in JTBC’s time travel revenge TV drama Reborn Rich.

Ryu Jun-yeol won a Best Actor Award for his role as a blind acupuncturist in the historical thriller film The Night Owl. Tang Wei received the Best Actress Award for her role in Park Chan-wook’s film Decision To Leave.

A Best Drama Daesang Award (Grand Prize) was presented to Park Eun-bin for her role as Woo Young-woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Jo Woo-jin won Best Supporting Actor for TV for his role in Narco Saints. Byun Yo-han won Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Hansan: Rising Dragon, while Park Se-wan won Best Supporting Actress for the film 6/45.

The Best Screenplay Award for TV went to Park Hae-young for her screenplay for My Liberation Notes. Park also wrote the hit drama My Mister. The Best Screenplay for film award went to Jung Ju-ri for the film Next Sohee.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo director Yoo In-shik won the Best Director Award for his popular TV drama, which also stars Kang Tae-oh and Kang Ki-young

Park Chan-wook won the Best Director Award for his film Decision To Leave, starring Tang Wei and Park Hae-il.

In the film category the Best New Actress Award went to Kim Si-eun for the film Next Sohee, while the Best New Actor Award went to GOT7’s Park Jin-young for the film Christmas Carol. Park Jin-young also won the TikTok Popularity Award together with the actress-singer IU.

The Best New Actor Award for a TV drama went to Moon Sang-min for the historical drama The Queen’s Umbrella and the Best New Actress Award went to Roh Yoon-seo for the romantic comedy Crash Course in Romance.

The Best New Director Award went to Ahn Tae-jin for his thriller The Night Owl.

A Best Technical Achievement Award for TV was presented to Little Women, while the Best Technical Achievement Award for film went to Lee Jung-jae’s directorial debut Hunt.

Netflix productions again featured prominently in the awards, with wins for best TV drama, best actress, best supporting actress, best new actor and actress and best screenplay. The ceremony, which took place at Paradise City in Incheon was broadcast on local stations and live via TikTok.
