The Eye-Watering Multimillion Dollar Sum FC Barcelona Can Win In Its Next Four Games

FC Barcelona have endured another season to forget in 2021/2022 that will yet again finish trophyless.

Seeming to undergo a revolution on coach Xavi Hernandez’s watch, the Catalans were humiliatingly knocked out of the Europa League quarterfinals at home by Eintracht Frankfurt and then fell to three consecutive home defeats to the likes of Rayo Vallecano and Cadiz which effectively handed the La Liga title to bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Still Sunday’s 2-1 win against Mallorca provided some hope in that it helped Barca tighten its strangehold on second place.

Xavi has admitted that it has been difficult to motivate players who are used to winning things to fight for what some regard as the first loser’s spot. But as higlighted by MAR

, the Blaugrana are guaranteed a huge cash windfall that is badly needed in an era their debts circle $1.5bn should they be able to finish runners-up in La Liga.

Put simply, with 34 matches already played in the Spanish top flight this term, Barca can take home anything between $52-105mn if results go their way in the remaining four fixtures.

By bagging second, Barca automatically qualify for the Champions League which can bring in $44mn for a team that gets to the quarter-finals as Barca often do.

Just for getting to the group stages, however, $16.4mn is already guaranteed with a further $3mn for each win and $945,000 per draw.

For reaching the last 16, each club receives $10mn which then becomes $11.1mn for the quarters as a whopping $34.1mn extra is handed to the winner.

Finishing second is also important as it guarantees passage to the Spanish Super Cup. In addition to offering Xavi the chance to win his first piece of silverware in the dugout before the Copa del Rey and La Liga are concluded, it can bring in a fixed fee of $6.3mn and anything up to a further $2.1mn based on performance.

Furthermore, as well as the $52-84mn already broken down, television bonuses can take the total figure past $100mn.

All this is easier said than done, of course, but Barca have to give it their all in their next quartet of outings and can get off on the right foot by beating fifth-placed Real Betis away on Saturday night.
