The 10 Best Movies Leaving Netflix In April

On the first day of each month, the world’s biggest streaming platforms—from Netflix
NFLX
to Hulu to Amazon Prime to HBO—add a number of new titles to their movie libraries. And Netflix has been especially active this month, and will continue to add many new movies to its database throughout the month of April.

But on the first day of each month we lose a lot of content as well. Between now and the end of April, Netflix will ditch dozens of movies. Luckily, you’ve got some time left to watch your favorites—or perhaps discover a new favorite.

In this article, I’ll highlight ten great films exiting Netflix by May 1. And at the end of the article, you’ll find a full list of movies and TV shows leaving the platform this month.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

After the murder of his father, young Arthur’s power-hungry uncle Vortigern seizes control of the crown. Robbed of his birthright, he grows up the hard way in the back alleys of the city, not knowing who he truly is. When fate leads him to pull the Excalibur sword from stone, Arthur embraces his true destiny to become a legendary fighter and leader.

The Artist

In the 1920s, actor George Valentin is a bona fide matinee idol with many adoring fans. While working on his latest film, George finds himself falling in love with an ingenue named Peppy Miller and, what’s more, it seems Peppy feels the same way. But George is reluctant to cheat on his wife with the beautiful young actress. The growing popularity of sound in movies further separates the potential lovers, as George’s career begins to fade while Peppy’s star rises.

August: Osage County

The death and funeral of their father brings three sisters to the home of their mother, Violet, an acid-tongued, pill-popping cancer patient. Daughters Barbara, Karen and Ivy—along with their significant others and various other kin—take the full brunt of their dysfunctional matriarch’s venom, for Violet tells every one of them exactly what she thinks of them. Based on the play by Tracy Letts.

Léon: The Professional

Mathilda is only 12 years old, but is already familiar with the dark side of life: her abusive father stores drugs for corrupt police officers, and her mother neglects her. Léon, who lives down the hall, tends to his houseplants and works as a hired hitman for mobster Tony. When her family is murdered by crooked DEA agent Stansfield, Mathilda joins forces with a reluctant Léon to learn his deadly trade and avenge her family’s deaths.

Stripes

Hard-luck cabbie John Winger—directionless after being fired from his job and dumped by his girlfriend—enlists in the U.S. Army with his close pal, Russell Ziskey. After his barely satisfactory performance in basic training, the irreverent Winger emerges as the figurehead for a ragtag band of Army misfits. However, his hijinks threaten to cause an international scandal when he inadvertently commandeers a military assault vehicle behind enemy lines.

The Shawshank Redemption

Andy Dufresne is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to a tough prison. However, only Andy knows he didn’t commit the crimes. While there, he forms a friendship with Red, experiences brutality of prison life, adapts, helps the warden, etc., all in 19 years.

The Town

Doug MacRay leads a band of ruthless bank robbers and has no real attachments except for James, who—despite his dangerous temper—is like a brother. Everything changes for Doug when James briefly takes a hostage, bank employee Claire Keesey. Learning that she lives in the gang’s neighborhood, Doug seeks her out to discover what she knows, and he falls in love. As the romance deepens, he wants out of his criminal life, but that could threaten Claire.

Moneyball

Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A’s, one day has an epiphany: Baseball’s conventional wisdom is all wrong. Faced with a tight budget, Beane must reinvent his team by outsmarting the richer ball clubs. Joining forces with Ivy League graduate Peter Brand, Beane prepares to challenge old-school traditions. He recruits bargain-bin players whom the scouts have labeled as flawed, but have game-winning potential. Based on the book by Michael Lewis.

Snatch

When Mickey does not throw his first fight as agreed, an infuriated Brick Top demands another match. Meanwhile, gangster Frankie Four Fingers comes to place a bet for a friend with Brick Top’s bookies, as multiple criminals converge on a stolen diamond that Frankie has come to London to sell.

Superman Returns

While Lex Luthor plots to destroy him once and for all, the Man of Steel returns after a long absence to a much-changed world.
