Suspects Arrested In Migos Rapper Takeoff’s Murder, Police Say

Houston police arrested two people in connection to the death of rapper Takeoff, one of the members of the hugely successful rap trio Migos who was killed last month, authorities said at a press conference Friday.

Key Facts

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Patrick Clark, 33, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.

A second person, Cameron Joshua, 22, was arrested on November 22 and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Finner thanked Takeoff’s family for having patience during the investigation, and said “we lost a good man.”

Sgt. Michael Burrow said Takeoff, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was an “innocent bystander” in the argument that led to his death, and was not involved in the dice game that was happening at the time the argument broke out and was not armed.

Crucial Quote

“I’m glad an arrest has taken place, that we do have someone in custody,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said. “It is unfortunate, because it does not bring Takeoff back.”

Key Background

Takeoff, 28, was killed on November 1 outside of a bowling alley in Houston. Another member of Migos, Quavo, who is also Takeoff’s uncle, was present at the event, though he was not harmed. An argument had broken out at the private party being hosted at the bowling alley, and roughly 40 to 50 people were present when Takeoff was killed. Takeoff was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other people were injured. Takeoff was honored last month at a celebration of life in his hometown of Atlanta in front of over 21,000 people. In one of his first public statements about Takeoff’s death, his Migos bandmate and cousin Offset said he’s in “unbearable” pain, and wrote, “I wish I could hug you one last time.” Quavo said “I’m proud to be in your life… I’m proud to say I’ve seen your blessings.” Rapper Cardi B, who is married to Offset, wrote, “The emptiness your brothers are feeling is unbearable and I pray that you give Offset ,Quavo, and your friends and family the strength to keep going as they are trying to cope with this loss.”
