‘Street World Fighter’ New Season Kicks It Up A Notch With Performance Directors

Just when you thought the Mnet dance competition series couldn’t take it up a notch, they’ve announced they’re looking for the BEST of the BEST with Mnet’s Street World Fighter: Directors’ Wars. The global competition series, which last focused on World of Street Woman Fighter from around the world, is seeking global performance directors to compete this year. This will be a competition for the Performance Director Survival and Masterpiece

The teaser was just released and mentioned performance directors for a plethora of established artists, including K-Pop, Coachella, the Olympics, Rihanna, BIGBANG, Beyoncé, and more. The new series is set to spotlight performance directors — the creative forces who shape every element of a stage, from visually-captivating K-pop choreography to the world’s biggest spectacles.

“An era when performance directors create work,” the teaser reveals. They begin to list all the performances, including JENNIE, MAMA Awards, Golden Disc Awards, NCT, BIGBANG, and more. They also include major events like the Olympics, the Super Bowl, and many directors for Usher, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, BTS, ENHYPEN, SM Entertainment, ILLIT, NEWJEANS, EXO, idle, ALLDAYPROJECT, IVE, Jeon Somi, izna, ADOR, MORE VISION, Starship Entertainment, YG Entertainment, CUBE Entertainment, WAKEONE, BIGHIT MUSIC, THEBLACKLABEL, PLEDIS Entertainment, and Beyoncé. They mention they are looking for “someone who is good at dance, choreography, and stage direction.”

For this series, gender does not matter. It’s a competition series in an “all-gender” format – a first for Mnet’s dance survival shows, with talent and performance direction taking center stage.

Mnet started with Street Woman Fighter, a female dance-crew competition, in 2021, and has since built an entire franchise around the format, expanding into Street Man Fighter, Stage Fighter (a classical dance competition), and World of Street Woman Fighter (a global competition for female dance crews: Australia, Korea, two from Japan, New Zealand, and the U.S.).

Not many details have been revealed about Street World Fighter: Directors’ Wars. While many directors are no longer dancing themselves, this competition could have them bring in a dance crew to coordinate and direct the pieces rather than have the dancers perform individually. The plans aren’t fully clear, but they include bringing in talented, accomplished global directors to compete in one place. The format hasn’t been shared yet. Be on the lookout for more details as we get them.

Street World Fighter: Directors’ War is set to premiere in August on Mnet and Mnet Plus.
