One strange twist in the current obsession with artificial intelligence is the trauma afflicting one of AI’s biggest fans—SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.
In 2017, Son launched the world’s largest-ever venture capital portfolio—the $100 billion Vision Fund—under the idea that AI would be the most important technology ever. “The internet has disrupted advertising and retailing, basically those two,” Son said in a 2021 interview with Barron’s. “Artificial intelligence is disrupting every other industry.”
